MARKET RASEN
Race 1 No2 EXPRESS SURPRISE
Trainer: Clive Boultbee-Brooks – Jockey: Ned Fox
A race that has cut up features a couple of recent winners but EXPRESS SURPRISE can upstage them for a small yard whose horses have recently been finding some form. His was a clear cut winner at Wetherby and Uttoxeter before staying on steadily to claim a minor cheque in a better race than this at Windsor. He’s skipped engagements since then, while his ability to handle extreme conditions over a marathon trip can be taken as read.
Race 3 No3 PIPING ROCK (Nap)
Trainer: Emma Lavelle – Jockey: Ben Jones
PIPING ROCK travelled well but didn’t pick up when asked to win his race at Warwick for which there were no excuses. Previous earning runs this season at Windsor and Wincanton suggest he’s better than he showed, and in a strictly two horse affair he can account for CHASING GLANCE.
Race 6 No3 RUMOURSAREFLYING (Each Way)
Trainer: Pam Sly – Jockey: Paul O’Brien
Two times chase winner RUMOURSAREFLYING a needs to demonstrate that he’s as effective in the mud, but if this meeting survives an inspection he should give a good account. The form of his Doncaster defeat has held up, and if as forecast the weather remains dry over the next 24 hours it could have an favourable effect on the state of the ground.
Race 7 No3 JUNIOR DES MOTTES
Trainer: Nicky Henderson Schofield – Jockey: J M Quinlan
JUNIOR DE MOTTES doddled up at Plumpton in a race where he and the second home came clear. His five lengths winning margin could have been extended, and a 7lb penalty shouldn’t prevent him completing a hat-trick.
NEWCASTLE
Race 3 No1 SANILAM ( Each Way)
Trainer: Sandy Thomson – Jockey: Brian Hughes
Although he failed to cope with a step up in class at Ayr, in which he finished fourth to Stede Bonnet, SANILAM is capable of bouncing back aided by the addition of a hood. He’d impressed on his previous start, and could find this move up to two and a half miles greatly assisting him.
Race 5 No1 PASSING PLEASURE (Nap)
Trainer: Oliver Greenall – Jockey: Craig Nichol
PASSING PLEASURE has stylishly delivered both over hurdles and fences this season and looked in cruise control on his chase debut at Catterick, since when he’s enjoyed a freshening break. His trainer excels with horses of his ilk, and the completion of a hat-trick is surely on the cards.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No2 SHRIMP SHADY (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Rob Hornby
Following SHRIMP SHADY this season has up to now proved a costly affair, but I’m prepared to give him another chance to get us off to a good start in this stayers’ contest. Key to his chance is a step up in trip which should see him make a mockery of his underwhelming effort at this course last time. He’s not been without training issues, and remains relatively unexposed.
Race 6 No2 FILLE IMBASSEE
Trainer: Julie Camacho – Jockey: Rowan Scott
FILLE IMBASSEE opened her account over this trip at Lingfield and now debuts for a new trainer. That was on handicap debut, and though 5lb higher she looked good value for her margin of success, and can follow-up.
Race 7 No12 ARLECCHINO’S REX (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Jason Watson
ARLECCHINO’S REX was a 20-1 shot when catching the eye with a strong finish over this course and distance last month, whilst he had been heavily backed on his previous start in which he ruined his chance by racing freely. He clearly has ability, and makes some appeal competing from the base of the weights.
