United dismissed the 40-year-old on January 5 following a 1–1 draw with Leeds United, after a series of poor performances during his 14 months in charge.

According to Sky Sports News, a filing released on Thursday to the New York Stock Exchange confirmed that £6.3 million, the fee paid to appoint Ruben Amorim and his staff from Sporting CP, has been written off, while a further £15.9 million provision has been set aside.

The update follows Manchester United’s decision to pay £9.2 million in November to bring in Amorim as a replacement for Erik ten Hag, whose departure also cost the club £13.5 million.

Amorim won 25 of his 63 games as manager of Manchester United. The team finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst result since they were relegated in the 1973–74 season.

United also lost the final of the UEFA Europa League, which means they are not playing in Europe this season. It is only the second time this has happened since 1990.

Earlier in the season, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Grimsby Town, who beat them on penalties in the second round.

United were sixth in the league when Amorim lost his job. This happened a few days after he had a serious disagreement with football director Jason Wilcox before the game against Leeds United.

Former United player Darren Fletcher took charge for two games as interim manager. After that, Michael Carrick was put in charge until the end of the season. Carrick won his fifth game out of six when United beat Everton F.C. on Monday.
