CHEPSTOW
Race 1 No1 BOSSMAN JACK (Nap)
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton
BOSSMAN JACK faces a more straightforward task in this novices’ hurdle as when pitched against Bobby’s Nelson at Wetherby. The abandonment of the latter on Wednesday means the selection carries a 7lb penalty against inferior rivals, who he should dispatch without too much difficulty.
Race 5 No9 ASTRONOMIC VIEW (Each Way)
Trainer: Sue Gardner – Jockey: Lucy Gardner
ASTRONOMIC VIEW will be in his element in the stamina sapping conditions and can make this a first success in just under two years. He made a bold bid to go all the way from the front at Ffos Las last time only to be claimed on the run-in, but that performance shows the nine-year-old is on the cusp of a breakthrough.
FAKENHAM
Race 3 No1 NO CURE (Nap)
Trainer: Tony Lawes – Jockey: Kevin Brogan
NO CURE can prove the pick of three penalised runners in the colours of Grand National winner Rough Quest. He brings good form from Ireland to the table on a first outing from his Dorking stables, having won a maiden hurdle at Limerick in late December. That was a good staying performance, and the selection is fancied to follow-up minus the hood he sported that day.
Race 6 No2 APIECEOVFORTUNE
Trainer: Pam Sly – Jockey: Paul O’Brien
APIECEOVFORTUNE has shown an aptitude for racing on easy courses, as her triumphs at Southwell and this track bear out. Her latest seemed unlikely when she dropped to the tail three out, only for her to rally and assert for victory on the run-in. Her trainer knows all about her family, and can guide her to further success.
KELSO
Race 1 No2 KOCKTAIL BLEU
Trainer: Chris Gordon – Jockey: Freddie Gordon
The eye is drawn to KOCKTAIL BLEU who brings the best form to the table on his long journey from Hampshire. He didn’t stay over two and a half miles at Newbury but had previously chased home some useful opponents including Idaho Sun, Kripticjim and Baron Noir. He’s opposed by two other previous winner, but should take care of business.
Race 3 No3 CHASE A FORTUNE (Each Way)
Trainer: Chris Grant – Jockey: Danny McManamin
CHASE A FORTUNE has a happy knack of troubling the judge and needs to be taken seriously racing with just 1lb more than when second to odds-on Indian River at Sedgefield. The winner is a good yardstick to be judged against, and the eight-year-old can continue his good run of form since returning to hurdles.
Race 5 No2 MILCREE (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Sean Quinlan
Easily the nicest horse in action at this meeting is MILCREE. On a first run over fences in the famous Hemmings colours he made light of a mark of 115 to hack up at Ayr, with Young Jack well behind. Though raised 8lb he looks the type that can go places, and he can confirm his superiority over his rival, who in fairness has subsequently performed better. YOUNG JACK can form the flip side of the exacta.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No8 ARLECCHINO’S REX (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Rose Dawes
With consecutive earning efforts behind him this year, ARLECCHINO’S REX is getting closer to a return to winning ways and has a better chance than his price indicates, with Dawes teaming up with Usher for what should result in another earning experience.
Race 7 No5 KIPP KELLY (Each Way)
Trainer: Derek Shaw – Jockey: Joanna Mason
KIPP KELLY has a good draw in this low grade sprint for which he could prove the answer. Every one of his 23 outings have happened on sand but his Wolverhampton record reads 0052273 which indicates he’s now become acquainted with the track and has it in him to belatedly open his account.
