PLUMPTON
Race 1 No2 HORS JEU
Trainer: Clive Boultbee-Brooks – Jockey: Richard Patrick
HORS JEU missed out on a good opportunity when Uttoxeter was cancelled but this appears to be an even more straightforward task for the lightly raced six-year-old. He looked a shade unlucky not to deliver when second at Hereford and should be more effective tackling a longer trip here.
Race 3 No5 TENNESSEE TANGO (Nap)
Trainer: JoeTizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
TENNESSEE TANGO was also a late scratch from a novices’ handicap at Sandown and now finds himself remaining in maiden company with a huge chance to add to his laurels. He’s an embryonic chaser who could find this course sharper than ideal, but there’s a class element about him that suggests he will outpoint the consistent RETETI, who could nevertheless form the other side of the exacta.
Race 5 No3 INFERNO SACREE
Trainer: Nigel Hawke – Jockey: Murray Dodd
Just as much as my Nap will need to adapt to the tight turns of this course, INFERNO SACREE should find them just to his liking. The confirmed front runner has endured a frustrating bout of seconditis this season, but after getting mugged on the run in at Catterick last time should now go one better under a conditional rider that gets on with him.
CATTERICK BRIDGE
Race 2 No2 ASA
Trainer: Phil Kirby – Jockey: Joe Williamson
ASA makes her first appearance over fences since bolting up in the corresponding race 12 months ago. After a string of disappointing efforts her recent earning display suggests she’s getting ready to make history repeat itself off a 10 lb higher mark.
Race 5 No3 VOODOO ANGEL (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Charlie Maggs
Two mares that keep earning without winning can dominate this handicap hurdle, with VOODOO ANGEL just preferred to VANILLA DANCER. The Nap made a costly mistake on the way to finishing second over course and distance on her latest outing, and can deservedly go be better in the colours of the immortal Red Rum.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 2 No3 HORWICH
Trainer: Clive Cox – Jockey: Rob Hornby
HORWICH goes into this handicap unbeaten and can emerge from it the same. The Mayson gelding made it two out of two under a penalty without his rider needing to reach for his whip here last time. His confidence levels are on a high, and he can complete a fine hat-trick.
Race 4 No1 HINT OF HUMOUR
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: William Carson
Although she’s fared worst with the draw in this 1000 metres sprint, HINT OF HUMOUR can emerge triumphant. Her jockey may have no alternative but to commit his mount from the gate, but if getting a smart exit she’s more than capable of taking the spoils.
Race 7 No4 BEAUZON (Nap)
Trainer: Ian Williams – Jockey: Billy Loughnane
While last year’s winner PIPERSTOWN is respected from just 2lb higher, the eye is drawn to hat-trick seeking BEAUZON. For winning two classified races he’s been left on the same mark, he gets on well with his jockey and is likely to take plenty of stopping.
