In a stunning Bavarian derby upset, Augsburg ended Bayern’s unbeaten season. Despite Hiroki Ito’s early lead, late goals from Arthur Chaves and Han-Noah Massengo turned the game on its head.
Vincent Kompany’s side lacked their usual fluidity, and the shock defeat snapped a remarkable 27-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga.
“We’ve had many, many wins here and often had reason to celebrate, but now we’ve lost, and we need to accept that,” said Kompany.
“The hunger is always there; that’s not the problem. Sometimes the performance on the day just isn’t there.
“People often say that the Bundesliga is easy, but we know from our own experience that it isn’t. We shouldn’t question everything now – we just need to accept that today wasn’t our day.
“However, what we say here isn’t decisive; what matters is our reaction on the pitch. That’s no guarantee, but we know what we have to do.”
Heidenheim 0-3 RB Leipzig
Leipzig dominated the second half at the Voith-Arena. Three goals in just eight minutes from Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa, and David Raum dismantled Heidenheim.
Mainz 3-1 Wolfsburg
Mainz secured a vital three points in their fight against relegation. After falling behind to an early Wolfsburg goal, strikes from Phillip Tietz, Stefan Bell, and Nadiem Amiri completed the comeback.
Leverkusen 1-0 Werder
Bayer Leverkusen ground out a narrow home win to keep pace with the European spots. A first-half goal by Lucas Vazquez proved decisive, as Werder Bremen failed to find an equalizer.
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim surged into third place with a clinical away win. Though Frankfurt led through Arnaud Kalimuendo, second-half goals from Max Moerstedt, Ozan Kabak, and an own goal flipped the result.
Monchengladbach 0-3 Stuttgart
Stuttgart produced a masterclass at Borussia-Park to reinforce their European credentials. Jamie Leweling opened the scoring before a Joe Scally own goal and a Deniz Undav strike confirmed the heavy defeat.
