The 44-year-old will select and bring his own trusted staff members. The club’s lawyers are busy with the contract, and Carrick’s signature will be on paper by the end of this week.

Carrick knows the club well. He previously worked at Old Trafford as an assistant coach under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In 2021, after Solskjaer was sacked, Carrick became interim manager and did well, winning two games and drawing one from three matches.

The final decision was made by INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who believes Carrick will deliver exceptional results. Carrick is also a club legend, having played 464 games for United. During his playing career, the club won five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

England footballer Charlie shared his opinion on Carrick’s appointment on Sky Sports and feels like United is an “Old boys’ club”.

“Someone who hasn’t been involved in Manchester United, because as you think, everyone goes back to oh it’s a Manchester United way. We are you need to get back to what Manchester United we’re talking about going back to Fergie times.

“There are club that are in a complete transition, but they are stuck in that bit because they haven’t found the right person for the job”.

On Saturday will be the Manchester Derby, which will be Carrick’s first match back at Old Trafford. It is a very difficult game to start with, as United face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, one of the strongest teams in the league.

The citizens are currently second in the league table and are firmly in the title race. Their aim is to win the match, collect all three points, and close the gap at the top as they continue their push for the Premier League title.

For United, this derby is a chance to test themselves under Carrick. The Red Devils are still finding their form after a run of disappointing performances. They will be desperate to secure three points, move up the table, and show signs of improvement.
