Many Red Devils fans want former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Fergerson to have an input on who will take charge of United after sacking Ruben Amorim on Monday, January 5, 2026.
He was hired to break records and win trophies, but the only record Amorim broke was becoming a short-term Manchester United manager.
The 40-year-old joined the club in November 2024 with high hopes, but even with time given, he failed to adapt to the team. United ended the season in 15th place their worst top-flight finish since 1974, the year they were relegated.
This poor run shows a bigger problem at the club. Manchester United have struggled to return to success since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
Under the 84-year-old legend, United were one of the best teams in the world. During his time, the club won 38 major trophies, including the famous 1999 treble the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League as well as 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.
Since Ferguson’s exit, United have gone through many managers and changes, but without the same success.
According to Sunday Supplement, “One of the biggest issues the modern Manchester United and this feeds into a lot of what we like a lot of themes of the show today.
“I think they’ve got to decide what they actually want to look like as a club, and I mean like in terms of especially with one, so they’re so obsessed with identity, it doesn’t really have a football identity, and if you pick one, and this is essential in modern football.
“United are now in a position and this is where there are echoes of kind of the 17 years within busy by. Where they’re looking for the next messiah”.
