PLUMPTON
Race 3 No1 CUEROS (Nap)
Trainer: Harry Derham – Jockey: Brendan Powell
The penalised CUEROS has since a career first triumph at Newcastle finished second at Wetherby, and now needs a similar effort to return to winning ways for a trainer who is enjoying a hot streak. He gets the vote over bumper scorer CREST OF STARS, who lacks experience as a jumper.
Race 5 No3 BELIEVEITANDUCAN
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Thomas Bellamy
BELIEVEITANDUCAN brings very good hurdling form to the table for his in form handler. He returned from a more than six months break to chase home a good yardstick at Newbury, thereby maintaining his progression since a move to Barbary Castle around this time last year.
Race 6 No8 NO MORE BOLERO
Trainer: James Owen – Jockey: Harry Cobden
NO MORE BOLERO can take advantage of the 7lb he receives from hat-trick seeking LOW EXPECTATIONS. He could hardly have been more impressive when scoring at Ludlow last week, and should make it a quick follow up under his penalty.
Race 7 No7 SAINT INVICTUS
Trainer: Syd Hosie – Jockey: James Davies
Although beaten a long way, the hooded SAINT INVICTUS nevertheless served up a good account when second in a Sandown bumper to give him strong claims in this match up with MESCALERO. The selection had previously filled the same placing in a point-to-point, and has scope for further progression.
AYR
Race 2 No1 UPON TWEED (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Danny McMenamin
If Richards has a budding star at Greystoke then UPON TWEED is surely that horse. The five-year-old dispatched a useful rival in a Newcastle bumper and then won as he liked when switching to hurdles over today’s course and distance last month. While the form is working out, he’s shown an aptitude for cut in the ground, and can reman unbeaten by staving off the attentions of Stede Bonnet.
KEMPTON PARK
Race 1 No1 SHIPBOURNE (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Colin Keane
SHIPBOURNE has plenty to live up to as a son of Frankel and out of a Classic winning mare, but he was impressive on debut at Newbury where he pulled well clear of toiling foes inside the final furlong. In spite of the fact that there are a couple of expensively priced newcomers amongst the opposition, he shouldn’t be troubled to follow up under a 7lb penalty.
Race 2 No1 GENEROUS RASCAL
Trainer: Oliver Cole – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark
GENEROUS RASCAL faces a similar challenge in that he’s penalised for a recent course and distance success. He showed a willing attitude in repelling the challenge of Perola by a neck, and has learned plenty from that first run on sand. He has to give 12lb to a dangerous opponent in You’ll Think Of Me, but can show he’s up to the task in hand.
Race 7 No4 TORITO
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: James Doyle
This featured Listed race can see TORITO getting into the shake-up as a value option to the paper favourite Chancellor. The latter’s course success was boosted when the second Sarab Star won last week, but Torito ran into the money when easy to back at Newmarket last month and that three lengths defeat by the useful Liberty Lane is there to be improved on.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 2 No3 CODIAK (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Kevin Stott
From a form perspective CODIAK holds the cards in this novice for future stayers. The Make Believe gelding came within a whisker of opening his account in a Redcar nursery last month, which in itself was his third earning run on just a fourth start. If repeating that back in novice company the Nap should go one better.
Race 6 No4 RAIN CAP
Trainer: John Riches – Jockey: Sean Kirrane
This looks a good opportunity for RAIN CAP to show he can cut it on the all-weather. The eight-year-old is only an occasional visitor to sand, and not nearly as effective on it as he is on turf. However, following a good run in defeat at Redcar he could be worth chancing to belatedly post a first AW success.
Race 7 No10 KODEBREAKER (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Zak Wheatley
KODEBREAKER competes from 1lb out of the handicap but hinted that he’s getting ready to win when fifth on his latest start at Southwell. It’s 16 months since his last success, and even though he has to cope with a wider than ideal draw he’s capable of troubling the judge at a price.
Race 9 No6 WHITELEY WAY (Each Way)
Trainer: Gary Brown – Jockey: Jack Callan
WHITELEY WAY has knocked on the door on each of her three starts this season, latterly when second in heavy ground at Bath. Importantly she carded a near miss on her previous outing at this course, and I’d maintaining her progression on just a fourth start for her trainer she can post a first career success.
