When the 22-year-old was down 4-3 in the second set, she requested emergency assistance. The match resumed, but not long into the final set, with her trailing 2-1, her condition worsened, and she sought medical attention again due to lower back pain.

Last week, the British No. 1 retired from her opening match at the Wuhan Open against Anni Li. Posting on threads, updating the public, this is what she wrote,” Last day at the doctors in Wuhan… feeling better now.

“Shame I couldn’t continue there but thank you for the messages”.

Raducanu has two more tournaments to participate in for the year to close off her tennis season, the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and the Hong Kong Open, which will start on October 27 until November 2, 2025.

Right now, no one knows if the former US Open champion will be fit to play, as her current coach, Francis Roig, is not with her in Ningbo. Roig officially joined Raducanu in August 2025.

The 57-year-old has worked with Nadal alongside his uncle Toni during the majority of the 22-time grand slam champion’s career and was part of Matteo Berrettini’s backroom staff.

Raducanu did post a photo on Instagram from the doctor’s office with a caption that she felt better but she faded after winning the opening set.

Zhu will go head-on with Russian top seed Mirra Andreeva in the last 16 on Wednesday. Both players last played against each other at Beijing in 2024. Andreeva defeated Zhu 6-4, 7-5.
