YARMOUTH
Race 1 No2 THE JOKER
Trainer: Jane Chapple-Hyam – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
Three runner races always become tactical but THE JOKER is talented, and can have the last laugh. Key to the Zarak colt’s chance is that he’s already proven at the 1600 metres trip, and though the only maiden in the field his three earning runs in as many starts are solid. Furthermore he has shown he can operate in the soft.
Race 2 No8 PIMENTEL
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Ashley Lewis
PIMENTEL was the bigger priced of two runners from her stable when dotting up at Brighton last week. The addition of cheek pieces helped her in that victory, and if working again will make her hard to stop under a 6lb penalty.
Race 3 No4 LYRICS OF LIFE (Nap)
Trainer: Brian Meehan – Jockey: Joe Leavy
There are some expensive purchases plying their trade in this fillies’ novice but they lack the experience of LYRICS OF LIFE, who looks the way to go. She’s had to play second fiddle in races at Newmarket and Haydock but on the plus side been denied by well regarded foes. This straight mile should play to her strengths.
Race 6 No10 LORD MONTAGUE
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand
LORD MONTAGUE landed a weak race at Brighton but has subsequently run well in two handicaps including when beaten only a length into third in a big field at Newbury. He was compromised by having to make his challenge wide of the two that beat him, and in different circumstances might have won. Marquand is an eye taking jockey booking, with a big run from the gelding in the offing.
PONTEFRACT
Race 3 No1 LOPEO
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
Penalties make life hard for two-year-olds at the best of times, but LOPEO showed that stamina is his forte when grinding out a wide margin first victory in heavy ground at Goodwood. He clearly needs a proper test, and the move up to a mile and a quarter on a stiffer track can prove just what the doctor ordered.
Race 7 No6 TIRIAC (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Midgley – Jockey: Jason Hart
If cut in the ground is the key to TIRIAC, then surely this will be D-Day for the five-year-old, whose sequence of duck eggs this year bears no resemblance to his true ability. Normally being drawn towards the outer would be a disadvantage on the 1200 metres course here, but that changes on soft ground when the field often tack across to the stands side. If this horse is ridden accordingly from the 11 gate he should go very close.
STRATFORD
Race 1 No2 BETTY’S TIARA
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Callum Pritchard
An overdue victory at Uttoxeter could be the spur mare BETTY’S TIARA requires to live up to her ability. She’s moving into handicaps off what could be a fair mark, while that has served to provide a much needed confidence boost on the back of three straight defeats.
Race 5 No4 THE EXPENSIVE ONE (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Nico de Boinville
The cash that came for THE EXPENSIVE ONE went west at Worcester, but this close relative of The New One will be fitter for this move into handicaps, with de Boinville an eye taking booking as he steps in for the sidelined Sam Twiston-Davies.
Race 6 No7 BOOM BOOM
Trainer: Rob Summers – Jockey: Robbie Dunne
As a reject from Seven Barrows BOOM BOOM has done well to pick up a couple of races at this track through the summer, and he was struck into before being eased on his latest outing at Worcester. He’s 5lb higher than for his latest triumph, but granted his liking for Stratford there’s every chance he will regain the winning thread under a jockey that knows him and gets on with him.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No11 ZAMBEZI MAGIC (Nap)
Trainer: Robbie Llewellyn- Jockey: Miss Jessica Llewellyn
ZAMBEZI MAGIC hacked up in the heavy at his favourite track when scoring at Ffos Las. He’s not as effective on the AW but a 4lb penalty for that 16 lengths demolition job hardly seems severe, and he can follow-up.
Race 4 a No6 VENETIAN ROMANCE
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: Rab Havlin
From a stable that is running nicely into form, VENETIAN ROMANCE can prove the answer. The St Mark’s Basilica filly wasn’t able to build on her pleasing debut run when out of the money at Kempton, but breaking from the rail in this 1400 metres contest is worth chancing to bounce back.
