The Villarreal midfielder is scheduled to appear at the Southwark Crown Court the following day, Wednesday, as he faces charges of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

These allegations reportedly took place between 2021 and 2023. Three women have come forward as victims, and the former Arsenal player has denied it.

Confirming during the pre-match media briefing about the 32-year-old’s availability, Villarreal manager Marcelino said,” I’m totally convinced that he is mentally prepared and technically prepared to play.

“For sure, he’ll be ready. We are really happy that Thomas is with us for his football capacity and ability and his presence as a human. He’s a great player with lots of experience. He’s played in some top sides. We know he’s got great ability and a great level.

“I think he ended last season and started this season well. He settled in during pre-season really, really well. I think he will get back to his top level, which we all know that he’s got, and I’m very happy he’s with us in the team.”

Partey was first arrested in July 2022 , he was not named at that time, as an investigation was being carried out. He continued to play for Arsenal and was charged four days after leaving Arsenal as a free agent due to his contract expiring.

According to Sky Sport News Arsenal did start contract talks with the midfielder but he rejected the offer that was being given to him due to them not meeting his financial standards.

After he was charged, Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wilshire, released a statement with his client denying everything ,”Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

On the 5th of August, Partey was granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Under the terms of his bail, he is prohibited from contacting the victims, must notify the police if he changes his residential address, and is required to inform the court in advance of any international travel.
