RIPON
Race 1 No3 WOODSTOCK CITY (Each Way)
Trainer: Ian Williams – Jockey: Zak Wheatley
WOODSTOCK CITY is taken to repeat his 2024 victory in this race, on a day when the name of a village in Oxfordshire crops up more than once here. He ran too freely when wearing cheek pieces on his latest start at Yarmouth but will love the fast ground, while the headgear might work this time.
Race 3 No1 HANNEY GIRL
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
HANNEY GIRL was a well supported winner when opening her account at Beverley and now moves into a handicap off top weight. That was a step in the right direction for the Cable Bay filly, and it’s given her a confidence lift ahead of this modest contest.
Race 4 No3 WOODSTOCK (Each Way)
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: Jason Hart
A second WOODSTOCK that can go well here is a Newbury specialist, but worth chancing in first time blinkers. He just needs to show that 1200 metres isn’t too sharp for him, but this is a rolling track which usually plays to the strength of closers.
Race 6 No4 SEA MASTER (Nap)
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: James Sullivan
Another with new headgear is SEA MASTER whose trainer adds a pair of cheek pieces. The chestnut is at his best when made plenty of use of, and this course with its long home straight can suit front runners. That’s because horses are operating on a constant camber, and can find it difficult to inject a change of gear.
LINGFIELD PARK
Race 5 No9 KEEP TALKING (Each Way)
Trainer: Stan Moore – Jockey: Ashley Lewis
One that takes my eye is KEEP TALKNG, who put in an improved display when stepped up in trip at Windsor and has not only been dropped 1lb, but has a good apprentice removing 7lb. Seventy five of the rider’s 112 mounts have finished in the money, while 16 have won. It augurs well for this filly, who carries the colours of three times Irish Grand National winner Brown Lad.
Race 6 No1 BRETTON WOOD
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Charles Bishop
Another value play is BRETTON WOOD who earned a first cheque from ten attempts when fourth at Ffos Las, beaten just two lengths. Whilst no star, his trainer might have found a good opportunity for him in this weak affair.
MUSSELBURGH
Race 1 No2 MAGIC BOY (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Tinkler – Jockey: Rowan Scott
MAGIC BOY has made the frame on all three of his career starts although new tactics to hold him up didn’t prove effective on his latest outing at Salisbury. Back n a sharper course, his chance might improve if he’s allowed to get on with it, while he brings the best form to the table.
Race 4 No6 TRAIS FLUORS (Each Way)
Trainer: Linda Perrett – Jockey: Kaiya Fraser
Veteran TRAIS FLUORS has been in the wilderness, but it wouldn’t be for the first time. However, there was more encouragement from his latest outing at Ayr, where he missed the break but made late headway to finish three lengths off the winner, and only just out of the money. He always requires luck in running, but if getting it can earn.
