Max Verstappen has firmly quashed speculation about his future, confirming he will race with Red Bull for the 2026 Formula 1 season.
The Dutch driver’s commitment quells months of rumors about a potential departure from the Milton Keynes-based team, who have faced challenges in maintaining their championship form in 2025.
Throughout the season, Verstappen has been linked with a move elsewhere, fueled by a performance clause in his contract.
Mercedes, who have yet to confirm their 2026 driver lineup, emerged as a possible destination, with team principal Toto Wolff expressing keen interest in the three-time world champion. Red Bull’s struggles to stay atop the pecking order only amplified the speculation.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently clarified that Verstappen would remain with the team, noting the performance clauses had expired.
Speaking ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen affirmed this stance, putting rumours to rest. “It was amusing to see all the stories floating around,” he said with a grin. “I never commented because I was focused on working with the team to boost our performance and plan for next year. That’s why I stayed quiet.”
Verstappen highlighted the team’s shared vision, stating, “It’s always been clear I’m staying. That’s the vibe within the team. We’re constantly discussing how to improve the car. When you’re not committed, those talks stop, and they never did for me.”
With Formula 1 set to introduce major technical regulation changes in 2026, some analysts suggest Verstappen will use the season to evaluate which teams adapt best before deciding on 2027.
When asked about future rumours, he shrugged, “Ask me next year, and we’ll probably have the same chatter. But I care more about performance than contract talk.”
Red Bull and Verstappen are now gearing up for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, a 70-lap battle around the 4.381-kilometer Hungaroring on August 3. Fans will be eager to see if the team can rediscover their winning edge and lay the groundwork for a strong 2026 campaign.
