Borussia Dortmund have secured an advantage in their efforts to retain star striker Serhou Guirassy, as the release clause in his contract expired on June 30.
The development hands the German giants full control over any potential transfer negotiations for the 29-year-old Guinean international, who has emerged as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
Previously, a select group of elite clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, could have triggered the clause for approximately 70 million euros.
However, with the clause no longer active, Dortmund are free to set their own price should interest in Guirassy intensify. The forward, who joined from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2024 for just 18 million euros, has proven a bargain, scoring an impressive 38 goals and providing nine assists in 50 competitive matches during his debut season.
Guirassy has consistently expressed his commitment to Dortmund, dispelling rumours of a move elsewhere. “I feel good in Dortmund,” he said recently, as reported by WAZ. “In football, there are always rumours, but I’m staying.”
His loyalty was further evident during the FIFA Club World Cup, where he netted a brace in a 2-1 victory over Monterrey, both goals assisted by teammate Karim Adeyemi, showcasing their growing on-field chemistry.
Dortmund’s managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, has also voiced confidence in Guirassy’s future at the club. “Serhou was determined to join BVB, and not to leave again after just one year,” Ricken said, as quoted by Sky Germany.
This sentiment aligns with Guirassy’s own statements, reinforcing the likelihood that he will remain a key figure for the Black and Yellows in the 2025/26 season.
Despite interest from top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, Guirassy’s focus appears to be on continuing his remarkable form at Signal Iduna Park, where his 13 Champions League goals last season set a record for an African player in a single campaign.
With his contract running until 2028, Dortmund are well-positioned to build around their talismanic striker, whose “elite finishing and physicality” have made him a fan favourite and a cornerstone of their attack.
