Last month, the 23-year-old endured a humiliating loss against Alcaraz in the French Open, where he lost in five sets after holding a triple match point in the fourth set.

Speaking to the media during his post-match interview the Italian tennis star spoke about how his defeat took him back to the drawing board, mastering his opponent’s weakness.

“I had a very tough loss in Paris. But it doesn’t really matter how you win or lose the important tournaments; you just have to understand what you did wrong, try to work on that.

“This is for sure one of the reasons why I’m holding this trophy. I’m very happy that I held my nerves. It’s an amazing feeling.”

The rise of the outcast as a Sinner just recently returned to competitive tennis at the Italian Open after the young man was given a three-month suspension. He tested positive for a prohibited substance called Clostebol.

His physiotherapist used a spray containing Clostebol to treat his small wound when he was giving him a massage. The spray was purchased over the counter by Sinner’s fitness coach.

The WADA launched an appeal for Sinner to receive a two-year sentence, but before the appeal could be processed, he settled with the anti-doping agency for a shorter suspension.

Taking this defeat positively this time around, 22-year-old Alcaraz says that 12 months ago, he did not handle his Olympic final loss well and went through a lot. Since then, he has learnt to accept everything that comes his way without beating himself up over his mistakes while playing.

“Last year in the Olympics I was really bad emotionally after the match. It was really, really hard for me to accept that moment.

“I think in the last year I’ve been through enough different situations that I learned from them.

“I just accept everything that is coming to me in the way it comes. Like, OK, I just lost a final in a Grand Slam, but I’m just really proud about being in a final.

“I want to keep the good moments and try to forget the bad moments,” he said.

The next tournament that the Wimbledon 2025 champion will take part in is the Cincinnati Open, which will be held in August. There, he will be defending his championship title. He defeated Frances Tiafoe in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, to claim his fifth title.
