The man of the moment, Mark Petchey, has been praised for his outstanding work alongside Emma Raducanu. Petchey has played a crucial role in helping Raducanu rediscover her form and confidence on the court.
Raducanu delivered an impressive performance at Wimbledon this year. She advanced to the third round after defeating British tennis star Mimi Xu and former Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondrousova, showcasing both composure and shot-making brilliance.
But her thrilling winning run ended in the third-round match against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Despite putting up a strong fight, Raducanu fell 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, in what many called one of the standout matches of the tournament so far.
The progress Raducanu has shown under Petchey’s guidance has sparked optimism among fans and commentators, hinting at a potential resurgence for the 2021 US Open champion.
During an interview the 51-year-old coach spoke fondly of Emma Raducanu , praising her talent and hard work. But he also said honestly that he can’t be her full-time coach because he has many TV commentating jobs. “I think at the moment we are a bit more short-term,” he told the Nothing Ventured podcast.
“She’s practising this week in London and her next tournament is Washington, and she’ll stay in the States the whole time.
“Our situation is a little fluid at the moment. I am going to help her this week as much as I can, I have some other commitments I can’t get out of.
Due to his demanding schedule, Mark Petchey has been absent for several of Emma Raducanu’s recent matches. During her French Open match against Wang Xinyu, Petchey was unavailable to attend in person and instead sent his daughter to represent him courtside.
He was also unavailable for the preparation period leading up to the Queen’s Club Championships, one of the key grass-court warm-up events ahead of Wimbledon.
