James Vowles is sticking to the assignment of returning Williams the “icon of Formula 1 to winning ways “as he signed his extended new deal with the group for a few more years.

Since joining Williams in 2023, their on-track performance has surged, racking up more points in just the first half of this season than in all of the previous three years, a clear sign of momentum and progress. The team is sitting in fifth place in the championship after 10 to 24 races this season.

Speaking to the media, the 45-year-old said Williams has always felt like home. He still has a lot to work to do and a lot to prove.

“I am delighted to sign a new contract with Atlassian Williams Racing, which has felt like home from the moment I walked through the door. This iconic team has already given me some incredible memories, and we are all united in our ambition to build on our legacy and win the World Championships again.

“Over the past two years, we have focused on fixing the foundations and now have a platform to go for glory in the years to come.”

Before making the move, James Vowles spent 12 impactful years at Mercedes, climbing to Strategy Director and leading race strategy, performance analysis, and simulation teams, key to Mercedes’ track dominance.

Now, with Vowles at the helm, Williams has made a major statement by signing ex-Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz to join forces with former Red Bull Racing’s Alex Albon, forming one of the strongest driver lineups on the grid and injecting fresh momentum into the team’s rise.

Owners Dorilton Capital who placed their trust in James Vowles from day one, confident he was the right leader to steer Williams back to glory said “James has brought the perfect mix of experience, energy, and strategic vision to the challenge of returning Williams to the top step of the podium. We’re not there yet, but the momentum building at Grove is undeniable, and the future looks incredibly bright.”
