The 29-year-old is likely to be omitted from Pep Guardiola’s squad for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. The club is believed to be open to considering offers for the forward should serious interest emerge during the current transfer window.

Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a British-record fee of 100 million pounds, endured a frustrating 2024–25 season, starting only seven Premier League matches. He was left out of the matchday squad for City’s 2–0 final-day victory over Fulham – a decision that drew sharp criticism from former Villa teammate Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Agbonlahor suggested Guardiola’s treatment of Grealish was “personal,” a claim the City manager firmly denied, stating it was a matter of selection. “Of course Jack has to play. He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn’t happen this season, or last season either,” Guardiola explained. “That’s a question for Jack, his agent, and the club. If he stays, it will be fine – he’s always fought to contribute.”

Asked directly whether he was unhappy with Grealish, Guardiola retorted: “Who said I’m not happy with Jack? Rico (Lewis) was not selected either. James McAtee was exceptional against Aston Villa and Wolves – why not ask me about him?”

Grealish, meanwhile, addressed criticism from fans on social media, responding to a video shared by Agbonlahor. “What do you want me to do? Score a hatty (hat-trick) in 20 (minutes)?” he replied under the post. In a separate response, he added: “Haha, I’ve been bad lately? Scored 3 goals in my last 3 appearances over 45 mins but okie dokie love x.”

With two years remaining on his contract and reportedly earning in the region of 300,000 pounds per week, any move away from the Etihad is expected to be complex. While links to other Premier League and European clubs have surfaced, few suitors are currently positioned to match City’s valuation or his wage demands.

There is growing belief that Grealish could follow a similar path to Jadon Sancho and leave on loan, should a permanent move fail to materialise. Sources suggest the winger remains focused on playing regular first-team football and ultimately regaining his place in the England squad – a goal that may require a fresh start.
