Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United can make Tottenham Hotspur “suffer” when the two sides meet in Wednesday’s Europa League final in Bilbao.
The Portuguese manager is chasing his first piece of silverware since taking charge at Old Trafford and is determined to end a difficult domestic season on a high by delivering a European trophy.
Despite their struggles in the Premier League – United sit 16th, with Spurs just one place above in 17th – both teams have impressed in Europe, setting up a compelling all-English clash at San Mames Stadium.
Victory would not only mark United’s first trophy under Amorim but also secure qualification for next season’s Champions League – an invaluable reward after a turbulent league campaign.

Spurs have scored 63 league goals – bettered only by Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester City – but their defence has been worryingly porous, conceding 61 times. Only Wolves, outside the relegation zone, have allowed more.
Amorim may look to exploit those vulnerabilities, relying on structured pressing and transitions to unsettle Spurs’ backline.
“I think they are a team who have a lot of intensity,” Amorim told MUTV.
“They have a really strong identity, they play in the same way and you can see it. They score a lot of goals but they also suffer because they want to score every time.
“We know Spurs, they know our team and we also have a strong identity so it is going to be a good game.
“It’s not enough, winning the Europa League. It’s not enough for all the support they [the fans] gave us this season.
“With our fans, it’s not a surprise for me – they will go swimming if needed to, even without a ticket! I already know.
“A big thank you for everything they did during the season. We will do our best to give something to them.”
