EPSOM DOWNS

Race 2 No3 PRINCE OF THE SEAS (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Hector Crouch

This early Derby trial can fall to PRINCE OF THE SEAS. The son of Sea The Stars opened his account in good style when heavily supported at Sandown in the autumn and should greatly appreciate the step up to a mile and a quarter. He meets strong competition but can stave off the attentions of Devil’s Advocate.

Race 3 No6 RATHGAR (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: David Probert

The historic City & Suburban Handicap has a wide open look, even though there’s a smaller field than usual. CITY OF DELIGHT looks the go-to horse but RATHGAR ran well to just miss out on the places on his first run back at Doncaster and has been made straighter for that. Furthermore he is double the price of his rival.

Race 4 No2 MASTER BUILDER (Each Way)
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: William Buick

MASTER BUILDER can go well at a fancy price in the equally famous ‘Great Met’. Some of the older horses from his Arundel stable have needed their first run back, but he can prove an exception, with the champion jockey in his saddle.

YARMOUTH

Race 7 No2 CORUNDRUM (Nap)
Trainer: Lucy Wadham – Jockey: S D Bowen

Fast ground has had a bearing on field sizes at this track’s first meeting of 2025. It could pay to wait for the nightcap for one bet, and that is CORUNDRUM. The Blue Point gelding troubled the judge in three of four outings as a juvenile, latterly beaten in a photo at Wolverhampton. His stable is amongst the winners.

HEREFORD

Race 5 No2 MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

Although he is risky, MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE should win this if his pilot can keep his mind on the job at the business end. He’s thrown it away a couple of times by trying to duck out but after a faux pas over fences he’s back over hurdles, and is undoubtedly well treated.

Race 6 No7 RACE TO BASE
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

Grange Farm should also be on the mark with RACE TO BASE in the concluding bumper. This point winner has earned in both start at this level, and is the form pick by a long way.

KELSO

Race 3 No2 CRACKING DESTINY (Each Way)
Trainer: Ewan Whillans – Jockey: Craig Nichol

Veteran CRACKING DESTINY is not as good as he was, but his trainer might have found a winning opportunity for him at his local course. He’s been given a break since underwhelming on his latest start, and importantly has taken another drop in the weights.

Race 4 No6 SAUCE OF LIFE (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Danny McMenamin

A bet I’m looking forward to is SAUCE OF LIFE, who defied a pronounced market drift when last seen before Christmas, and has been freshened up for an end of season and summer campaign on the better ground.

Race 6 No1 ABBEY SCOPE
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Danny McMenamin

From the same stable, ABBEY SCOPE can make a winning debut under Rules. He’s shown ability at home, and although opposed by a more experienced foe from a top yard in Jimmy Hurdstrom, could give that one problems.

THIRSK

Race 4 No8 MOUNT KING (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan

MOUNT KING has experienced an up and down period in his career since arriving at Great Habton from Ireland. A strong traveller, he recorded 9ne of his two successes here at this course, and with his trainer’shorses mote forward than usual is worth a speculative bet.

Race 6 No8 TITAINIUM (Nap)
Trainer: Grant Tuer – Jockey: Sam James

The versatile TITAINIUM attracted support and ran well to chase home Capla Lazarus on his Redcar reappearance two weeks ago. He steps up to a mile and a half today, but he certainly wasn’t stopping at the finish, and granted normal progression should go one better.
