As the 2025 season kicks off, Norris and McLaren head to the Australian Grand Prix as early favourites after a standout pre-season test, where the young Briton impressed with a blistering race simulation on day two.
Ferrari, meanwhile, slotted into second place during testing, with Hamilton steadily adapting to his new team after a blockbuster move from Mercedes.
The Scuderia have not claimed a drivers’ title since 2007, and Norris sees Hamilton’s arrival as a chance to change that. “It would be incredible to see Lewis win in red with Ferrari,” Norris said in an interview with NBC Sports.
“It would make him the most successful driver ever in Formula 1, topping it off with an eighth world championship. That would be the icing on the cake.”
The McLaren star, who has yet to face Hamilton in a direct title fight, acknowledged the challenge ahead. “I’d love to see it happen,” he added, “but they’re both incredibly quick drivers. I rate Charles [Leclerc] very highly and have a lot of respect for his talent—he’s one of the fastest in Formula 1.”
Norris also praised Ferrari’s enduring strength. “They’re a team you can never doubt,” he said. “They’ve probably been the most competitive outfit over the last 10, 20, even 30 years. They’re always at the top.” Reflecting on 2024, he noted, “Last year, they were on a similar upward trend to us, but we managed to overtake them. Still, they’ve been improving a lot lately.”
Recent changes in team leadership have bolstered Ferrari’s momentum, making them a force to watch.
Looking ahead to the season opener, Norris expects fierce competition. “The form Ferrari showed at the end of last year made them our biggest rivals, more so than Red Bull,” he said. “I’m excited to take on the team in red. They’re incredible, and going up against Charles and Lewis will be thrilling.”
He also tipped Mercedes and Red Bull to challenge for wins, setting the stage for a gripping battle.
The 2025 Australian Grand Prix, the first race of the season, will unfold over 58 laps of the 5.278-kilometre Albert Park circuit on Sunday, March 16.
With McLaren and Ferrari firing on all cylinders, fans are in for a showdown as Hamilton chases history and Norris aims to cement his own legacy.
