The Blues have experienced a rollercoaster season under manager Enzo Maresca, with their form in the Premier League fluctuating.

Despite this, Chelsea have the opportunity to ascend to fourth place if they triumph over London rivals West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s squad has undergone significant transformation with investments exceeding one billion pounds since Clearlake Capital took over, but current goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has become a point of contention among fans.

Sanchez has committed the joint-most errors leading to goals this season in the Premier League, tallying five mistakes.

Maresca has been open about his indecision regarding the goalkeeper position for the upcoming match. He said, “Not yet. We have two or three days for the decision. The good thing is that in any decision I take, I feel good because every time Filip (Jorgensen) has played since we started, he has done well.

” Filip or Robert, we will see but any decision will be okay.”

He further clarified his stance on the competition between the goalkeepers, stating, “I don’t think so because the first time I spoke with Filip in June or July, I was clear that the number one choice was Robert. For sure, if the number one is Robert and then because we have two good goalkeepers, we can make some different decisions.

“This doesn’t mean that Robert can make a mistake every game and is always going to play. The number one choice was Robert and we will see on Monday.”

The potential acquisition of Kobel, who could command a transfer fee of up to seventy million euros, indicates Chelsea’s intent to bolster their backline. Posts on X have also highlighted Chelsea’s interest in Kobel, suggesting this move could be part of a broader strategy to solidify their defense for the upcoming seasons.

Moreover, Arsenal legend David Seaman shared his thoughts on another goalkeeper scenario involving Chelsea on his podcast, ‘Seaman Says’.

He commented on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan stint at Bournemouth, “He’s come back, and he didn’t have the best of times when he first went there, but he’s showing people what he can do [at Bournemouth]. He is capable of that. The only thing with Sanchez is, he’s brilliant with his feet and he makes some really good saves, but he proper throws them in.”

This analysis from Seaman might hint at a possible return for Kepa to Chelsea, complicating the goalkeeper narrative further. As the transfer window progresses, all eyes will be on Chelsea’s decisions in the goalkeeping department, potentially reshaping their defensive strategy for the better.
