The Blues have shown significant interest in the midfielder, who is regarded even more highly than their record-breaking signing, Moises Caicedo.

Insiders have revealed that Chelsea has already inquired about Baleba’s availability and transfer valuation earlier this month.

However, a move in January appears unlikely due to Brighton’s high valuation and the substantial fee required to secure his services before the February 3 transfer deadline.

“Carlos Baleba is a player of immense potential, offering more in attack than Caicedo,” a source close to the transfer discussions stated.

Brighton, aware of Baleba’s value to their team, has him under contract until the summer of 2028, with an option for an additional year, which places them in a strong negotiating position.

Interest in Baleba isn’t confined to Chelsea alone; several Italian clubs and other European teams are also in the race for his signature.

This competition could drive his transfer fee even higher, given Brighton’s history of not folding under pressure for their prized assets.

In other Chelsea news, the goalkeeping situation has been under intense scrutiny. Robert Sanchez, who has committed five errors leading to goals this season, remains the first choice despite criticism.

“We back Robert; he’s our goalkeeper,” Enzo Maresca has said publicly, confirming that Chelsea will not be looking to bolster their goalkeeping options before the transfer window shuts.

Meanwhile, in the forward department, Chelsea are part of a quintet of Premier League clubs eyeing Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. However, Tottenham have reportedly taken the lead, having agreed on terms with Bayern for the young forward, putting them ahead in this transfer tussle.

Chelsea’s transfer strategy this window seems focused on laying the groundwork for the summer, particularly in midfield, while maintaining faith in their current goalkeeper, despite his recent struggles.

The coming months will be crucial for the Blues as they aim to strengthen their squad for a title challenge.
