Wednesday’s UK racing tips come your way from Bath, Pontefract, Kempton and Yarmouth on 9 August 2023.
Bath
Race 1 – Delagate This Lord 9/2
A change of scenery appears to have worked wonders for Delagate This Lord, who recorded a second success in as many starts for the Robyn Brisland team over course and distance a fortnight ago.
He remains well treated from 5lb higher and is fancied to continue his fine run, though multiple course winner Symbol of Hope ought to provide a stern challenge.
Others to note include Jenever, Brian The Snail and Autumn Angel.
Race 2 – Bussento 1/7
Bussento, trained by Eve Johnson Houghton, catches the eye in the Sky Sports Racing HD Virgin 519 Restricted Maiden Stakes.
The three-year-old son of Oasis Dream runs for the first time since being gelded and on previous creditable handicap efforts he looks the horse to beat.
Race 4 – Nevendon 7/2
Galactic Glow was denied a hat-trick when returning to handicap company over 1m2f at this track last month but, given he is still rated 7lb above his last winning mark, Nevendon can get the better of him today.
Alexandra Dunn’s six-year-old was a staying-on second over course and distance last month and can progress further off the same mark.
The consistent Lhebayeb is another to consider.
Race 6 – Haaf A Diamond 9/4
This could go the way of the fairly progressive Haaf A Diamond.
She lost little in defeat when filling the runner-up spot over this distance at Leicester last month and a reproduction of that effort can see her firmly in the picture, despite a 2lb raised mark.
Perfect Gentleman has to shoulder top-weight following a decent third at Wolverhampton last Friday but is still feared most, ahead of Lunar Landscape.
Pontefract
Race 1 – Dogged 7/2
There has been no stopping the hat-trick seeking Dogged of late and a 5lb penalty for his most recent success looks unlikely to stop Rebecca Menzies’ inmate from adding to his win tally.
He kept on to score by a length and a half at Beverley earlier this month and is fancied to get the better of the reopposing Just Hiss, who finished in second behind the selection that day and is 5lb better off with that rival here.
Dandy’s Angel was a game winner on her latest outing and is another to consider on her hat-trick bid off a 3lb raised mark.
Race 2 – Rainwater 87/100
Rainwater made a promising start to his racing career when filling the runner-up spot over this trip at Haydock on Sunday.
He is related to a few smart types, including Group 2-placed Ventura Rebel, and he likely has more to offer with that in mind.
Royal Zabeel should not be taken lightly in the hands of Ryan Moore, even though he disappointed slightly on his debut over C&D last month. Bay Of Australia is another to bear in mind.
Race 3- Point Given 87/100
Sir Michael Stoute’s Point Given appeals in the On Course Lady Bookmaker EBF Maiden Stakes, where he will be ridden by Ryan Moore.
The Blue Point juvenile was fourth on debut when showing a good deal of inexperience, but he was only beaten a length and a quarter and second-placed Blue Prince has gone on to seal the form by winning since.
Race 7 – International Girl 4/1
Harry’s Halo improved from his return at Kempton in June when filling the runner-up spot at both Chester and Doncaster. Kevin Frost’s gelding commands plenty of respect, but International Girl edges the vote.
She has been running in more competitive races of late and could have finished closer last time at York when hampered at a crucial point.
The form of that contest has worked out well, with the winner following up in the Stewards’ Cup and the second also winning since, and a 2lb drop from the handicapper aids her cause.
Any market support for Kit Gabriel on his first start for Mark Loughnane should be noted.
Kempton
Race 1 – Botanical 3/1
Roger Varian’s Botanical can show his class again in the Unibet Horserace Betting-Operator Of The Year Novice Stakes.
The Lope De Vega gelding, who is out of the Listed winner Bloomfield, was beaten a neck on debut at this track but was then a convincing winner when stepped up in trip at Hamilton last time out.
He caught the eye when coming home three and three-quarter lengths ahead that day and looks able to climb another rung on the ladder when he returns to the Polytrack.
Race 3 – Royal Tapestry 10/1
On the same card, Charlie Johnston’s Royal Tapestry makes his debut in the Unibet/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.
A Too Darn Hot colt out of a Group-placed mare, who has produced a black type performer in the German Listed winner Broderie, Royal Tapestry is bred to be smart.
Race 5 – Coco Royale 3/1
In an interesting renewal, Marmara Sea seems to have chances on her return to the all-weather after a nine-length third at Newmarket on turf and that followed a one-length second over this trip at Lingfield.
Let Life Happen is another for the shortlist after coming home second on both of her starts to date and she can also go well, but Coco Royale could be the one beat.
Fifth and only beaten three lengths on her debut here, she was weak in the market that day and looked the sort to improve considerably for the experience.
Race 7 – Pons Aelius 9/4
Having been narrowly denied at Chester in May, Pons Aelius made no mistake when winning at Goodwood the following month.
Charlie Johnston’s colt was a winner over course and distance from a 2lb lower mark in December and the son of Galileo could continue to progress over marathon trips.
A step up in trip could suit the lightly-raced Fox Vision and he heads the remainder.
Yarmouth
Race 2 – Dubai Treasure 72/100
There is an interesting Godolphin runner at Yarmouth in Dubai Treasure, who represents Saeed bin Suroor in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
The Exceed And Excel bay, who out of a four-time winning Dubawi mare, made a good start to her career when second in a Newmarket maiden in mid-July.
In front of her was Charlie Johnston’s Sacred Angel, subsequent winner of the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes, and behind her was Ornellaia, who was a two-length winner of a Goodwood maiden last week.
Race 3 – Sindri 18/10
Emperor’s Clothes is hard to ignore after placing on both of his starts to date but he has to give 5lb to Sindri, which may make the difference.
Fourth at Kempton on her debut, she set the pace that day before weakening late on and Michael Bell’s filly should be suited by this drop in trip.
Between The Covers is another to consider after her Lingfield third and she could also mount a challenge.
Race 5 – Razzam 7/2
Mick Appleby often does well with his new recruits and that trend could continue with Razzam.
The gelded son of Showcasing hit the frame on his final start for Roger Varian, where he was too keen over 6f. If the drop in trip sees him in a better light, the unexposed three-year-old could get back on track.
Amor De Mi Vida and Harry With Style must enter calculations, while market support for the Chelsea Banham-trained Munificent would bring him into the reckoning.
Race 6 – Tammany Hall 5/1
Tammany Hall made a promising start for the Phil McEntee team when narrowly denied at Lingfield four days ago.
He has become extremely well treated judged on past exploits and this looks a good opportunity to go one better.
Bomb Squad ought to appreciate the drop back from seven furlongs and he ranks highly in this field, while Enchanted Night should also be thereabouts.
