Jamie Moore's Diary - jockey talks Goshen and Ascot rides

LEICESTER

Race 1 – HORSE WHISPERER 4/1

HORSE WHISPERER was a game penultimate run winner on handicap debut at Brighton.

Soundly beaten second at the same venue next time and rates a player up in trip.

Big Brown Bear placed four from seven starts to date with three coming over this distance and has a good opportunity to open his account.

Marie’s Secret just missed on a placing attempting course and distance and could make her presence felt among this company.

Recent Hamilton winner DC Flyer shouldn’t be ruled out after a drop in class.

Race 5 – GEMINI STAR 13/2

There was a lot to like about Gemini Star’s latest run and she is taken to build on that performance.

The three-year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner was having her first spin since April when going down by just a neck to the in-form Thunder Star at Yarmouth.

Given a patient ride by Kieran O’Neill, she made good headway to challenge late on and the front pair pulled nicely clear of the rest.

Alice Haynes has campaigned her charge sparingly, so everything points towards the Thirsk maiden winner having scope for more improvement ahead of the Everards of Leicestershire Handicap.

Race 6 – THE CITY’S PHANTOM 16/1

THE CITY’S PHANTOM is yet to win this year but has slipped down the ratings as a result and takes the eye in the Kube – Leicester’s Premier Event Hire Venue Handicap.

Richard Spencer’s charge was a fair fourth in this 10-furlong contest last term and is on an 8lb lower mark this time around.

He looked all over the winner when kicking clear at Newmarket recently, only to be reeled in close home by First Officer.

However, that was an encouraging effort and enough to suggest a fourth career success could be just around the corner.

Race 8 – SEATTLE TIME 9/2

SEATTLE TIME improved second-up to finish second of ten tackling this trip at Yarmouth. Appears attractively treated on figures and a bold bid is anticipated.

Shark Two One returned to form last month delivering a going away one length success at Catterick. Replicating that effort will see him go close.

Micks Dream and Media Guest could nudge themselves into the places.

BRIGHTON

Race 1 – HEAD’S GONE PAL 9/2

HEAD’S GONE PAL missed out at Chelmsford in latest trip. Likes to be prominent and looks well positioned to score attempting this moderate contest.

Maiden Eyes Closed finished fifth wearing first time tongue-tie at Chelmsford and is yet to win in four starts. This may prove a more winnable race in which to open her account.

Birkie Boy was left poorly positioned at Chelmsford over seven furlongs. Best form would see him in the mix, but can be inconsistent.

Clear Justice is better than his last effort after a sluggish start. Better break will see him feature.

Race 3 – BROAD APPEAL 7/2

BROAD APPEAL is worth backing to end his long victory drought in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Apprentice Handicap.

The nine-year-old gained the last of his five wins way back in June 2020 but came within a neck of putting that right at Bath last month, when just passed close home by 50-1 outsider Silver Atom.

Broad Appeal is now 20lb below his last winning mark and while he is very much in the twilight of his career, his latest effort suggests he is not a spent force just yet.

Race 5 – PROMETEO 91/100

PROMETEO can make it third time lucky in the Champions Day On Sky Sports Racing EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes after putting in two promising efforts so far.

Marco Botti’s juvenile looked in need of the experience when third at Kempton and then was only just collared in the closing stages by well-backed winner Ashariba at Yarmouth.

The son of Postponed looks the one to beat in a race that may not take much winning.

Race 6 – MOONDIAL 6/1

MOONDIAL showed plenty of spirit to score at Epsom in August and did nothing wrong when second to firm favourite Turquoise Diamond at this track last time out.

After being denied a clear passage around halfway, she came home well over seven furlongs and should enjoy stepping up to a mile for the Sky Sports Racing HD Virgin 519 Handicap.

SOUTHWELL

Race 1  – MENG TIAN 33/10

MENG TIAN made the frame over course and distance on previous start and may prove dangerous if continuing that form.

Premiership switches to all weather after three wins from five starts on turf. Can continue the winning steak back down to 1m and is capable of more.

Tacitus was beaten at Redcar. Finished second on penultimate start and warrants respect among lesser company.

Race 4 – VULTAR 5/4

VULTAR appeals in the At The Races App Market Movers Novice Stakes, having looked useful in runner-up efforts at Nottingham and Doncaster before paying the price for a slow start at Kempton.

Race 6 – NOTEABLE 6/1

NOTEABLE came within a neck of opening his account at Thirsk and finds another winnable looking race and could go one better.

Course winner Coaxing drops back to six furlongs and could prove dangerous if recapturing some of her early season form.

Congress won three starts ago over course and distance. Remains higher in the weights representing a stable out of form, but does know how to win so shouldn’t be ruled out.

Race 9 – LORD TORRANAGA 4/1

LORD TORRANAGA ran a close second at this track in latest outing That was encouraging and with plenty to like is considered.

Returning after a spell Blue Hawaii is worth considering if ready to go. Previously went well when resuming from a break.

Spring Glow and Iconique should form part of your calculations.
