Tuesday’s Best Bets and Tips- 30/08/2022

Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets for Tuesday’s racing at Ripon, Epsom Downs, Chepstow, Newton Abbot and Carlisle on 30/08/2022.

RIPON – 30/08/2022

Race 1 No2 SPARKLING RED (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Dods – Jockey: Connor Beasley

After three near misses SPARKLING RED made no mistake at Thirsk and now filled with confidence can shrug aside a penalty at the main expense of Girl Magic.

Race 2 No4 LARK LANE
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Ben Curtis

Carded to go off as an outsider in this lowly seller, LARK LANE is worth backing to spring a surprise. He’s not devoid of ability and has northern ace Curtis doing the steering.

Race 7 No6 EASTER ICON (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Paul Hanagan

EASTER ICON hasn’t shown much in three starts to gain a handicap mark and not strayed at less than 33-1. This attractive chestnut will again be amongst the roughies but a move up to two miles could bring about some improvement from him.

EPSOM DOWNS – 30/08/2022

Race 7 No1 WHISTLEDOWN (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

Bass has forged a good association with WHISTLEDOWN on whom the apprentice was successful over this course and distance at the 3nd of last month. The filly has subsequently gone close at Brighton and Ffos Las and is more likely than most of her rivals to run her race.

CHEPSTOW – 30/08/2022

Race 4 No1 WILLINGLY
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Mark Winn

WILLINGLY has to be taken very seriously in this race dominated by in form fillies and mares. Having opened her account for the season at Leicester she was even more impressive when coming clear in the closing stages at Ffos Las, on both occasions under the handling of the apprentice who is back in the hot seat today.

Race 6 No1 AUTUMN FESTIVAL (Nap)
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Danny Tudhope

AUTUMN FESTIVAL set a good time when scoring from the front over the course and distance last week. Penalised 6lb for that, he is more than capable of defying the rise 7nder a top pilot who knows how to get the best out of him.

NEWTON ABBOT – 30/08/2022

Race 1 No5 STAR OF VALOUR ( Nap)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell

Although he’s the only one in this maiden hurdle without previous experience of jumping, STAR OF VALOUR rates a strong bet to get us off to a good start. He was a model of consistency for his trainer on the Flat through the summer and has taken well to hurdling at home.

Race 6 No1 MR MAFIA
Trainer: Martin Keighley – Jockey: Sean Bowen

MR MAFIA is a good operator in small fields when his often smooth jumping gets his opponents at it. More importantly, he’s taking a class drop today, and is a more reliable entity than either of his two rivals.

CARLISLE – 30/08/2022

Race 1 No3 DON’T FIGHT IT ( Nap)
Trainer: Keith Dalgleish – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez

DON’T FIGHT IT should have the edge on Dixiedoodledragon in this hot nursery. The selection was beaten a short head by her stablemate in a similar contest at Musselburgh but now enjoys a 7lb swing which should be more than enough for her to turn the tables.

Race 2 No10 SIXCOR (Each Way)
Trainer: Linda Perratt – Jockey: Harry Russell

SIXCOR has been a consistent earner since changing stables. The Scottish air is treating him well, and following a string of earning efforts he can post a first success away from Ayr.

Race 3 No2 HIGHLAND QUEEN (Each Way)
Trainer: Bryan Smart – Jockey: Harry Russell

As the most inexperienced in the field, HIGHLAND QUEEN should have more to offer on her return from a near 100-day break. She’s started 125-1 and 25-1 for her two earning outings this season but will surely be one of the market leaders on the back of her good run against Hurt You Never at this course.

Race 4 No2 COVERDALE
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Kevin Stott

From a stable whose juveniles frequently take a step up on their second outing, COVERDALE needs consideration for an earning run in an open affair. The Expert Eye colt chased home Pol Roger at Haydock, and though in the ruck was beaten just three and a half lengths, while the winner went on to defy a penalty and los more than useful.
