CATTERICK BRIDGE
Race 3 No6 EASTER ICON (Nap)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Connor Beasley
EASTER ICON doesn’t do anything in a hurry, but the chestnut has really bloomed since his latest start when taking away a minor cheque at Wolverhampton. Back on turf and on a first visit to this tight track, he can outperform his price and get into the shake-up.
FFOS LAS
Race 1 No4 GOLDEN SHOT
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott – Jockey: Mr Frederick Daly
In the colours of former Champion Hurdle winner Collier Bay, GOLDEN SHOT looks to hold the cards as a worthy favourite for this amateur jockeys’ handicap. He bumped into an improving foe when second at York, and on this quick reappearance should make no mistake
Race 2 No4 DEVIL’S POINT (Nap)
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
DEVIL’S POINT missed out when the last three races at Goodwood on Saturday were abandoned owing to an unsafe track. The New Bay colt now finds himself in calmer waters as he bids to endorse the promise shown on debut at Sandown where he shaped with abundant promise without being given a hard time. He’s going to be a lot more streetwise, and is ready to start living up to the high regard in which he’s held by his trainer.
Race 3 No4 ISLAND NATIVE
Trainer: Heather Main – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
ISLAND NATIVE has been a slow burner. Unraced at two, he took a step forward on his latest outing when runner-up on handicap debut at Brighton. He’s learning all the time, and can cash in on a big weight differential with the penalised Covert Mission, who has to concede 18lb.
CHELMSFORD CITY
Race 3 No6 VICE CAPTAIN (Nap)
Trainer: George Scott – Jockey: Callum Shepherd
Scott has his team in good order, and in VICE CAPTAIN may have the answer to this weakly contested maiden. The selection has troubled the judge on all five starts, and though exposed is the likely winner by a process of elimination.
Race 6 No9 YEOMAN
Trainer: James Fanshawe – Jockey: Rowan Scott
YEOMAN has enjoyed a winning habit with back-to-back successes at Wolverhampton. He’s up 4lb for the latest win but should relish stepping up to a mile and a quarter. He’s the most likely winner of an interesting heat, though Forest Demon and Fleur De MER need respecting.
RIPON
Race 2 No1 SEVEN QUESTIONS (Nap)
Trainer: George Scott – Jockey: Darragh Keenan
Fighting Wren is a potential improver who could well be backed, but Yarmouth scorer SEVEN QUESTIONS is narrowly preferred. The gelded son of Kodiac has progressed from race to race, and buckled down well to open his account last month. He’s carrying a 7lb penalty but should know too much for his rivals.
Race 4 No5 WHISPERING ROYAL
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Jason Hart
Dundalk scorer WHISPERING ROYAL avoids a penalty for that debut success when trained overseas. He’s shaped well in each of his starts for King on grass and is bred to appreciate the extra quarter mile he’ll encounter this evening.
