SOUTHWELL
Race 3 No6 SUPASUNRISE
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Finn Lambert
SUPASUNRISE gained his only success last season with Lambert in the hot seat at Huntingdon on Boxing Day. His stable has made a bright start to the new season, and with the cheek pieces he wore on his final couple of starts also retained he can claim a cheque.
Race 4 No3 DESTROYTHEEVIDENCE
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: David Bass
DESTROYTHEEVIDENCE opened his account in a Worcester maiden hurdle back in May for which he carries a penalty. The same can be said of his main market rival Butch, while Cheltenham De Vaige is a chase winner returning to hurdles. The Bailey horses have been in good form through the summer, and the five-year-old can continue from where he left off.
Race 5 No7 DOM PERRY (Nap)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Daryl Jacob
DOM PERRY landed a bumper at this course and was second in a novices’ handicap hurdle here whilst not running badly in hotter contests at Newbury and Kempton. If Morrison has extracted some improvement out of the gelding he should give his foes plenty to think about.
SEDGEFIELD
Race 3 No7 JUMPING SUSIE
Trainer: John McConnell – Jockey: Ben Harvey
The first of two good chances for her trainer, JUMPING SUSIE can deservedly put a win in the board after three near-misses from her four outings this season. The last two have seen her disappoint at Cartmel but then bounce back at Kelso where only the useful Imperial Data proved her superior.
Race 6 No3 CARDANO
Trainer: Ben Brookhouse – Jockey: Eddie Edge
CARDANO was a winner on the Flat for his rookie handler at Epsom, and has been sharpened up by it for this return to hurdles. It’s been almost two years since he last tried his hand at jumping, but that recent success shows he’s well in himself and ready to start making up for lost time.
Race 7 No6 HYPERSONIC MISSILE (Nap)
Trainer: John McConnell – Jockey: Ben Harvey
Califet gelding HYPERSONIC MISSILE looks a winner in waiting for the powerful McConnell/Harvey combo after chasing home a smart horse trained by Willie Mullins at Sligo. He faces nothing of that calibre, and should make this a first success under Rules.
AYR
Race 2 No4 GOLDEN STRIKE (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Oisin Orr
Calyx colt GOLDEN STRIKE finished like a rocket to claim second when the penny dropped late into his Pontefract introduction. It was a very tidy first offering from the likely favourite for this six furlongs maiden, who should know enough to open his account as the best bet on the card.
Race 8 No4 MICHAEL’S PLEDGE
Trainer: John Quinn – Jockey: Jason Hart
At the end of the marathon card MICHAEL’S PLEDGE might be a horse worth waiting for. His figures this year of 33223 tell you he has the ability required, but this afternoon he can show the wherewithal to put his head in front for a trainer in raptures over Highfield Princess’s magnificent win at Longchamp.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No3 WATERLOO SUNSET (Each Way)
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Coakley could do with a change of luck, and WATERLOO SUNSET could be the horse to provide it. He’s knocked on the door on more than one occasion this season but now receives the assistance of former champion Murphy for the first time. He’s back at the base level of the handicap ladder and it could make a difference.
Race 8 No12 JACK OF CLUBS (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Dods – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez
Getting weight from the entire field in this competitive looking heat, JACK OF CLUBS can surely put in another earning run returned to the course and distance over which he was successful in August. He was placed on his only other visit to Dunstall Park and should confirm his liking for the track under top northern jock Rodriguez.
