BRIGHTON
Race 1 No3 NOTRE MAISON
Trainer: Stuart Kittow – Jockey: Callum Shepherd
NOTRE MAISON forms part of a double challenge on this race for the Kittow stable, and can prove superior to barnmate Gherkin. The latter goes well for Hollie Doyle who is back in the saddle, but the percentage call is Notre Maison, who has shown admirable consistency to rack up figures of 113222 while winning once and finishing third on three occasions at this specialist track.
Race 5 No1 SUN FESTIVAL
Trainer: Joseph Parr – Jockey: Alice Bond
Top weight SUN FESTIVAL knows his way around here and can utilise his track craft to thwart Chinthurst. The selection is paying a fifth visit to the seaside venue in 2023 and is a dual scorer here this season. More recently he’s been in good form on the Chelmsford Polytrack, and seems nailed on to put in another big earning effort.
Race 8 No2 ON EDGE (Nap)
Trainer: Christopher Mason – Jockey: Gina Mangan
Prolific scorer ON EDGE is napped to extend his winning sequence to four. He carries a 5lb penalty for a snug delivery at Windsor and gets on well with Mangan, who has guided him to his three recent triumphs. On a second career visit to this course, the five-year-old can stave off the attentions of Batchelor Boy.
CARLISLE
Race 3 No3 EASTER JUNCTION (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
McCain and Hughes should be followed over the next few weeks as the trainer unveils some interesting new additions to his string. EASTER JUNCTION is not one of those, but he’s shown plenty of ability in the short time he’s been with McCain, and might have given the useful Wordsworth something to think about but for making an early exit on his hurdling bow at Bangor.
Race 7 No3 MASSINI MAN
Trainer: Sandy Thomson – Jockey: Ryan Mania
MASSINI MAN posted figures of 121 after joining Thomason last season and is an especially good operator when returning fresh from a break. He’s gone up 8lbs in the weights, but with his tail up will be hard to beat on this first visit to Carlisle.
Race 8 No4 IORANGI DE L’ISLE
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
IORANGI DE L’ISLE was an authoritative winner of his second point in Ireland before joining McCain from a source that has benefitted the trainer in the past. In the colours of his principal owner Tim Leslie the German-bred can make an immediate impact and take the spoils on his debut under Rules.
WINCANTON
Race 2 No1 CLASSIC KING (Nap)
Trainer: Emma Lavelle – Jockey: Thomas Bellamy
CLASSIC KING skipped a good opportunity last week but his trainer appears to have found him an equally good opening for this first run over hurdles. Placed in each of his three bumpers, he can trump former decent Flat performer Beny Nahar Road who is carded to start in front of him in the betting.
Race 3 No6 DOM PERRY (Each Way)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Daryl Jacob
DOM PERRY ran well in each of his five races over hurdles last season and is physically stronger for this return to action for a trainer who does well with his small band of jumpers. In form rivals such as Highland Frolic and Pleasant Man will ensure the selection goes off at an attractive each-way price.
Race 4 No6 JUNIPER
Trainer: Anthony Honeyball – Jockey: Rex Dingle
JUNIPER is always hard to beat when right, as her record of 1/11PP2 shows. When able to dictate she can take a fair bit of pegging back, and she’s having her tongue tied down for this first outing for a new trainer. Honeyball does well with mares over fences and is the right man to have inherited the nine-year-old from now-retired Harry Whittington.
CHELMSFORD CITY
Race 1 No4 WHIP CRACKER (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hughes – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
WHIP CRACKER should prove a short-priced winner of the opener on an especially tricky card for punting. The Cracksman colt found only Broadway Act his superior on debut at Newmarket and has trained well on the all-weather at home. He should make no mistake.
Race 3 No3 RIOT
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Hector Crouch
RIOT looked like a horse getting ready to win when third over the course and distance last time. He’s reacted positively to the fitting of a visor, and can with a deserved success justify the long journey from North Yorkshire.
