NEWBURY
Race 1 No6 HURRICANE POWER
Trainer: Paul Cole – Jockey: Jason Watson
This isn’t the hottest maiden staged here and could be there for the taking for HURRICANE POWER. As the most experienced runner the Exceed And Excel colt holds the cards, he just needs to equal or better the form he’s shown in two earning runs at Windsor for Paul Cole.
Race 4 No7 MUFID (Each Way)
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Jim Crowley
The Haynes, Hanson & Clark Stakes has thrown up some top class horses including the legendary Shergar. There’s nothing that could hold a candle to that lamented champion in today’s field, and while it contains four winners I fancy newcomer MUFID to have a big say. The Lope De Vega colt is bred to love the cut in the ground, he’s been showing up well in his gallops and could be the sort of rabbit Tregoning pulls out of his hat from time to time.
Race 5 No1 ALDAARY (Nap)
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Jim Crowley
If class will out then ALDAARY should get the job done in this Listed feature. The Ascot specialist ran his best of three races this year when runner-up in the Group 2 Summer Mile there in mid July. He was then beaten five lengths by Paddington in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and is going to appreciate a return to calmer waters today. He should make no mistake.
Race 6 No8 FLASH BARDOT (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: David Probert
FLASH BARDOT underwhelmed when down the field at Bath but has previously put in a sequence of earning runs at different levels of the handicap spectrum. It might be wise to draw a line through that latest heavy defeat and support her to bounce back, as she went well in her winding-up gallop for this.
AYR
Race 4 No8 QUEEN ME (Nap)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan – Jockey: Tom Eaves
QUEEN ME is a bet i’m looking forward to in the featured Listed sprint. The daughter of Dubawi finished a creditable sixth in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup and her defeat into eleventh of 16 in the Nunthorpe (also Group 1) at York saw her beaten less than five lengths. This is a big class drop for this lightly-raced individual who should take care of business.
Race 6 No4 AYR POET (Each Way)
Trainer: Jim Goldie – Jockey: Paul Mulrennan
AYR POET is a standing dish here with all but two of his eight outings in 2023 happening at the course. He’s won twice, finished second twice and third once, and is almost guaranteed to give another good account for a trainer who covets his winners at the Western meeting.
NEWTON ABBOT
Race 4 No3 JANESLITTLEVOICE (Nap)
Trainer: Ella Pickard – Jockey: Harriet Tucker
JANESLITTLEVOICE was just worried out of it by Ya Know Yaseff at the last meeting here and the winner went on to endorse the form. It was the mare’s third near miss in as many starts since being sent chasing, and a success today would be thoroughly deserved.
Race 5 No6 THIRTYFOUR THIRTY
Trainer: Syd Hosie – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
THIRTYFOUR THIRTY found only Minella Rescue his superior on debut for his trainer at Stratford. For this first run over hurdles he has the same jockey that rode him in two bumpers last season. He should open his account at the expense of penalised Wonderful Eagle.
KEMPTON PARK
Race 2 No7 FOX LEGACY (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
Lope De Vega colt FOX LEGACY represents a Newbury race that has worked out incredibly well and is capable of stepping up on that midfield placing behind Doncaster Listed scorer Dancing Gemini. He was green and will be more streetwise, but just needs to cope with an outer draw which could make life difficult for him if he misses the break. I’m prepared to gamble that such a scenario doesn’t happen.
Race 3 No1 WHISPERING WORDS (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick
As the only winner in the field and representing a Godolphin operation that powered back into gear at Yarmouth on Wednesday, WHISPERING WORDS has to be taken seriously in this fillies’ novice. She shaded a well regarded foe in Doom at Newmarket and after a six week freshening break is ready to consolidate.
Race 4 No6 JUNGLE MAC
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: William Buick
JUNGLE MAC spoiled his chance by hanging at Salisbury and has been given plenty of time to get over those exertions. The Bungle Inthejungle colt is well regarded at West Ilsley, and can trouble the best of them from his plum draw one off the fence.
