BRIGHTON
Race 2 No1 HOORNBLOWER (Nap)
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: Rob Hornby
HOORNBLOWER attracted plenty of support on handicap debut at Kempton only to weaken disappointingly in the final furlong. The Ulysses gelding is in calmer waters in this maiden and confidently expected to open his account.
Race 4 No5 CAPE CORNWALL ROSE
Trainer: Sir Mark Todd – Jockey: Rob Hornby
Having stepped up to claim a cheque on her latest start at this course, CAPE CORNWALL ROSE is in a good spot to go one better. She handled the undulating track well on that first run in five weeks, while her trainer looks to have found a weak race for her.
LEICESTER
Race 1 No6 OCEAN RUNNER (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick
Godolphin can dominate the novice and maiden races that start this interesting card. First up for the Boys In Blue is Blue Point colt OCEAN RUNNER, who admittedly disappointed when 2-5 for his first run at Ascot. The 625,000 guineas purchase will bring a more streetwise approach to this contest and can now show his true colours against market rival Matloob.
Race 2 No6 IMPRESSIVE ACT
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick
Dubawi colt IMPRESSIVE ACT found a more experienced rival his master on debut at York, and that form is the best on offer here. The Knavesmire is a very good learning yard for juveniles, and the selection should make short work of these foes.
Race 6 No4 DESTINED
Trainer: Michael Dods – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez
With few miles on his racing clock, DESTINED should justify her trip from Darlington to prevail in this fillies’ handicap. She attained a mark of 70 when impressively opening her account at Redcar, and there should be plenty more to come from her.
REDCAR
Race 1 No2 MAPMAKER
Trainer: Darryll Holland – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
MAPMAKER carries colours that have peppered the board with two-year-old successes this spring. The Aclaim filly is a well-related individual and the subject of favourable reports from the gallops.
Race 2 No1 MOUSH
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Connor Beasley
MOUSH has troubled the judge on three of his four outings including when chasing home Edge Of Darkness at Thirsk earlier in the month. He may well be happier on this faster surface than he’s encountered before and has the ability to take the spoils in what seems a weakly contested handicap.
Race 3 No5 CRYSTAL MARINER (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
Crystal Ocean’s half-brother CRYSTAL MARINER can take care of business in this novice on the way to better things. The Sea The Stars colt landed some good bets at Newcastle, and won’t mind going back on turf after excelling in his winding-up gallop.
Race 4 No2 ZARGA
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
From the same stable, ZARGA was a big eye-taker when third on her return to action at Nottingham. From a horrible draw, she was settled in behind horses and stayed on all the way up the home straight. She had to angle out for a couple of gaps, and in different circumstances might nearly have won. Compensation should await her.
NOTTINGHAM
Race 3 No5 PROTEST RALLY (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
PROTEST RALLY is the only betting proposition on an especially tricky card, and one to play following a first success at Southwell. The son of Dandy Man has worked enthusiastically on grass in Lambourn and can bring his A-game back to the table.
LINGFIELD PARK
Race 3 No5 HILL FILLY (Each Way)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Sean Levey
A market check is advised with HILL FILLY, who is hard to assess based on one unplaced run at Nottingham last back end. The daughter of Kingston Hill has developed physically and mentally through the winter, and should there be support for her I will follow it in.
Race 5 No4 WIZARDING (Nap)
Trainer: Heather Main – Jockey: Joshua Bryan
WIZARDING has been a beaten favourite on his last two starts at Kempton and now tries his hand on a first visit to Lingfield. He’s been given a more than four-month break to regather himself for a campaign that will combine turf with the all-weather, and his small stable is going particularly well.
