FONTWELL PARK
Race 1 No1 NOT LONG LEFT (Nap)
Trainer: Christian Williams – Jockey: Jack Tudor
NOT LONG LEFT has the best form in this novices’ hurdle and is perhaps the best equipped to handle a tactical situation that looks certain to unfold with only three in the field. He cuts back a tad on the distance ladder and is nimble enough to handle the tight turns on this figure-of-eight circuit.
Race 6 No2 CALL OF THE LOON
Trainer: Christian Williams – Jockey: Ellis Collier
CALL OF THE LOON ran well in a better race at Plumpton two weeks ago and can now take advantage of a class drop to complete a double at the meeting for his trainer. The veteran has been lightly raced over the past year, and has a low mileage for a horse rising 13.
UTTOXETER
Race 2 No8 MANIMOLE (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
MANIMOLE is closely matched with Ooh Betty who beat her in a recent race at Ludlow. However, with a nice turn in the weights the first-named mare has a good chance of turning the tables for a deserved first success under Rules.
Race 4 No1 TEA CLIPPER (Each Way)
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: Stan Sheppard
TEA CLIPPER went winless through the 2022/23 campaign but contested some valuable staying handicaps in which he was never discredited. His efforts a sixth placing in the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival as well as a midfield finish behind Kitty’s Light in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown. He brings a class element to the table and can get into the shake-up along with Gloire D’Athon and the well-weighted Quid Pro Quo.
Race 7 No2 EAGLE’S REALM
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Kielan Woods
EAGLE’S REALM has shown he operates effectively when returning from a break, but on this occasion has been revved up by a recent run on the Flat. He’s in a race that any of the five acceptors can win, but is the most likely to run his race and should palm away the challenges of Galata Bridge and Sarsons Risk.
KELSO
Race 3 No4 RUSSIAN VIRTUE
Trainer: Rebecca Menzies – Jockey: Nathan Moscrop
RUSSIAN VIRTUE proved to be an owners’ dream through the first half of the year when winning three hurdles and two chases as well as earning in his other three outings. The six-year-old hasn’t stopped improving, and though beaten at Hexham last time was not in any way disgraced. This move back into a Class 2 can see him regain the winning thread.
