DONCASTER

Race 3 No4 VAGUELY ROYAL (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark

Galileo colt VAGUELY ROYAL has knocked on the door on both 2023 starts for top connections and possesses the best form on offer. He should relish stretching out to a mile and a half on a galloping track, and rates a professional bet to open his account.

Race 4 No3 BOND CHAIRMAN (Each-Way)
Trainer: Bryan Smart – Jockey: William Buick

BOND CHAIRMAN hails from a stable that does well with its sprint handicappers, and with Buick an eye-taking booking is one that could be best caught fresh after a winter and spring in which he’s filled into his frame. He tantalised me on a couple of occasions last year, especially when beaten a nose by Mountain Peak at Ascot, after which he was on the wrong side of his rating. He’s a very fast horse, and I’m fascinated to see what he can do on this return to the fray.

Race 7 No9 BERNIE THE BEAR
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Oisin Orr

This combination were very unlucky not to land the York seller for us on Friday. Their representative in this BERNIE THE BEAR signalled with a narrow defeat on comeback at Carlisle that he’s ready to put ‘ones’ next to his name, and from a draw that should favour him looks sure to take home another cheque.

SALISBURY

Race 2 No2 TIGER BAY (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Dane O’Neill

TIGER BAY makes plenty of appeal in this fillies’ handicap, a race that has cut up in her favour. The daughter of Harry Angel fared better than her finishing position indicates when fifth on handicap debut at Goodwood where she was beaten just two and a half lengths by the winner, Sudden Ambush. Very little separates the five runners on official ratings, but she is the one with most scope for progression.

Race 3 No6 INDIGO POINT
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert

My best news for this fascinating novice race is for INDIGO POINT, who represents emerging sire Blue Point in the colours of American George Strawbridge. She’s up against a 210,000 pounds Sioux Nation filly in Labalaba and a very well-related individual called Alyanaabi, but if running as well as she’s worked at Kingsclere should prove the pick of the bunch.

Race 4 No7 REDREDROBIN
Trainer: Malcolm Saunders – Jockey: William Carson

REDREDROBIN has been a model of consistency for her small stable and gave it her all when foiled by just a head when trying to complete a hat-trick at Chepstow. She should be suited by this track and has a favourite’s chance of returning to winning ways from just 1lb higher.
