Monday Best Bets and Tips – 05/09/2022

12/10/2022

Neil Morrice provides his best bets and tips for Monday’s racing at Brighton, Newton Abbot, Perth and New Castle on 05/09/2022.

BRIGHTON – 05/09/2022

Race 5 No1 TEMUR KHAN (Nap)
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Mollie Phillips

TEMUS KHAN has developed a liking for this switchback course, posting back-to-back successes over the mile and a half and finishing with a flourish to chase home Largo Bay last time. He has the clear measure of Junoesque on that running, and may have more to fear from the equally in form Silver Bubble.

Race 7 No7 GLAMOROUS FORCE
Trainer: Ron a Harris – Jockey: Trevor Whelan

GLAMOROUS FORCE ended a long wait for a win at Chepstow, and now back in form is worth following to follow-up. He posted consecutive wins when last successful at the end of the 2021 campaign, showing that when he reaches his peak he can maintain it.

NEWTON ABBOT – 05/09/2022

Race 3 No1 UMBRIGADO
Trainer: David Pipe – Jockey: Tom Scudamore

Few horses disappointed me as much as UMBRIGADO last season, though it transpires he was suffering from a wind affliction. The eight-year-old has to give away lumps of weight to the upwardly mobile Valentino, but should his breathing operation take him back to his old form he’s capable of posting an upset.

Race 6 No1 COAL STOCK (Nap)
Trainer: Syd Hosie – Jockey: Harry Kimber

COAL STOCK gave Tizzard his first winner since taking over the licence from his father Colin when scoring at Fontwell in May. He’s proving a shrewd purchase and has continued in winning ways for his new handler Hosie. With his liking for this track he should prove hard to beat.

PERTH – 05/09/2022

Race 1 No3 ESTEPONA SUN
Trainer: Charles Byrnes – Jockey: P Byrnes

The opening novices’ hurdle looks like turning into a benefit for Irish raiders and the pick of them is ESTEPONA SUN. For his sheer consistency the chestnut deserves a first success under Byrnes’ tenure, and he ran well in defeat on his only previous visit to this track last summer.

Race 5 No6 LAKE SHORE DRIVE (Nap)
Trainer: Laura Morgan – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr

LAKE SHORE DRIVE is not the first jumper to benefit from a switch to the Morgan stable, and he has an attractive look in this hat-trick mission from the base of the weights. The ten-year-old hasn’t really been pressed in taking our successive handicap at this course, and though higher in the weights can stave off the challenge of multiple scorer Glen Ava.

NEWCASTLE – 05/09/2022

Race 4 No1 DIAMOND BAY (Nap)
Trainer: Tom Ward – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt

The go-to horse in this stayers’ handicap has to be DIAMOND BAY following his return to winning ways at Lingfield. That a fifth success from his last dozen outings, and it’s interesting that he ran up a sequence of three straight runs around the same time last year.

Race 6 No6 RED ASTAIRE
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan

Knocker’s of RED ASTAIRE will say he’s had plenty of chances, but with market rival a comp, eye unknown quantity it makes fiscal sense to support him to make it third time lucky following his defeats at Redcar and Southwell. He was only beaten threequarters of a length last time, and remains on the same surface.

Race 7 No8 BLAZING HOT (Each Way)
Trainer: Rebecca Menzies – Jockey: David Allan

BLAZING HOT has picked up cheques on each of his three outings since changing stables. He took out back-to-back races at this course back in January, and with a very good overall record here is going to be tough to keep out of the argument on his first all-weather run of 2022.
