After an important schooling morning today, plans for GOSHEN are still up in the air, and it has yet to be decided if the star of Gary Moore’s stable will have another run in a chase.
His opening gambit with fences resulted in a wide-margin defeat at Ascot, with Jamie Moore letting him come home in his own time once his chance had gone.
The gelding’s schooling over fences was spot on this morning, and Jamie reported: “He was fine, but it’s yet to be decided whether he goes for the Grade 2 (Coral Hurdle) at Ascot on Saturday or waits for another novice chase at Kempton Park next Monday.
“We will be playing for places against Constitution Hill if we go back hurdling as well as trying to give him 3lb, but I have a hunch he could turn up at Ascot.”
Jamie has five rides at Ascot on Friday, of whom IN THE AIR is on a recovery mission after sustaining a heavy fall at Fontwell. He added: “It was a terrible fall which is a shame as his schooling had been great. He will need a proper confidence boost after that.
“I also ride a couple of chasers – LARRY, who is having a first run of the season and could need it, and ZHIGULI, who is also returning from a long break
“DIYAKEN is a nice recruit that was sourced out of champion French trainer Francois Nicolle’s stable after winning his only start (at Compiegne). He goes for the Introductory Hurdle.
“He should find the cut in the ground he needs, but we need to get a run into him, and he will come on for the run.”
Jamie was visibly over the moon with AUTHORISED SPEED after the gelding cantered home in the maiden hurdle at Lingfield on Tuesday.
He enthused: “He’s a good horse and gave me a great feel. It’s a joy to ride a horse like him, and being by Authorised he loves the cut in the ground. It wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up going for the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown just after Christmas.”
Jamie is praiseworthy of the way Lingfield has reasserted its jumps programme to include the Winter Millions, a three day mini festival in January.
He added: “The drainage has been improved and Clerk of the Course George Hill is doing a splendid job.
“Goshen ran in an open ended hurdle at the Winter Millions where there’s a million pounds on offer in prize money. It was sad that Lingfield lost its big novice chase and the Summit Hurdle to other tracks, but the Winter Millions has helped redress the balance.”
