28/01/2022 – Friday’s Racing Tips

28/01/2022

Neil Morrice provides tips for Friday’s British race meetings at Doncaster, Huntingdon, Lingfield Park and Wolverhampton on 28/01/2022.

DONCASTER – 28/01/2022

Race 2 No6 SKYTASTIC
Trainer: Sam Thomas – Jockey: Charlie Deutsch

SKYTASTIC numbered a bumper here last February amongst his unbeaten sequence of two successes. He’s a well regarded prospect that has been given the best tuition ahead of this hurdles debut, and can deliver.

Race 5 No6 IMPERIAL HOPE (Nap)
Trainer: Oliver Sherwood – Jockey: Brian Hughes

Title race leader Hughes teams up with Sherwood on IMPERIAL HOPE who needs taking seriously in this weakly contested heat. The selection landed his only point in Ireland before scoring on Rules debut in a bumper here 10 months ago. Second on his jumping debut at Southwell, he underwhelmed when favourite for a similar contest at Hereford, but came back with excuses.

Race 6 No2 CHESS PLAYER (Each Way)
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Kielan Woods

CHESS PLAYER fell in the race won by Ace Time at Uttoxeter before Christmas. He re-engages with a pull in the weights, and can take home a cheque for a trainer that does well with his runners on the Town Moor.

HUNTINGDON – 28/01/2022

Race 2 No5 KALINIHTA (Each Way)
Trainer: Noel Williams – Jockey: Tom O’Brien

KALINIHTA impressively took out a Fontwell bumper on his only start not far short of four years ago. Owing to recurring issues his trainer has handled the gelding with a kid glove on the way to a return to the racecourse. It’s asking a lot of him to deliver after such a protracted break, but if near fully fit he can take home a cheque.

Race 4 No3 SHERBORNE
Trainer: Colin Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell

Named after his trainer’s local town, SHERBORNE takes the eye on a switch to handicap company. The six-year-old opened his account with a neck defeat of the useful Duke Of Rockingham in a Lingfield novice and embarks on this new sphere off what could prove a handy mark.

Race 5 No2 VIENNA COURT (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

VIENNA COURT is the most improved horse in her trainer’s powerful yard and is using this Listed chase as a stepping stone to the mares’ chase at the Cheltenham Festival. The seven-year-old impressed in back-to-back triumphs at Cheltenham, and can continue on an upward curve and land the hat-trick.

LINGFIELD PARK – 28/01/2022

Race 2 No2 ROAMIN IN GLOAMIN (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Clifford Lee

This is a class drop ROAMIN IN GLOAMIN should take in his stride. His recent defeat at Newcastle was a better run than it looked, and he interestingly moves into lowly claiming company when he could have gone for a handicap.

Race 5 No2 REELCELTIC (Each Way)
Trainer: Pat Phelan – Jockey: Rhys Clutterbuck

A gamble on REELCELTIC here was foiled by Cafe Sydney but I suspect his connections feel they can recoup the losses with interest in this more competitive affair. That two weeks ago was his first since early July, and suggests there is more to work with.

WOLVERHAMPTON – 28/01/2022

Race 6 No1 TADLEEL (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Connor Murtagh

TADLEEL looked to have a bit up his sleeve when scorching to a wide margin triumph at Newcastle earlier in the month. He’s back for more under a 4lb penalty, and can prove a worthy Nap by following-up.
