Neil Morrice provides tips for Tuesday’s British race meetings at Leicester, Lingfield Park and Southwell on 25/01/2022.
LEICESTER – 25/01/2022
Race 2 No4 COUPDEBOL (Each Way)
Trainer: Tom George – Jockey: James Bowen
COUPDEBOL failed to cut the mustard under top weight in a handicap hurdle at Wincanton, but the former inmate of David Cottin’s powerful stable in France might be a different proposition now his attention is switched to fences. The grey had run in eye taking style behind InSm Maximus at Newbury and was too keen for his own good last time. His trainer appears to have found a good opportunity for him.
Race 3 No1 BOWTOGREATNESS (Nap)
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Kielan Woods
BOWTOGREATNESS skipped an opportunity over the weekend to wait for this novices’ hurdle. He can show it was a shrewd move by his trainer by backing up his recent smooth Ffos Las success.
Race 5 No9 ZUCKERBERG (Each Way)
Trainer: Jennie Candlish – Jockey: Page Fuller
ZUCKERBERG often flatters to deceive, but this frequent earner has strong claims to get into the money for the fifth time in six outings over fences this season. He loomed only to fall short when third to Freddy Fanatapan at Huntingdon, a repeat of which would see him in the thick of things today.
LINGFIELD PARK – 25/01/2022
Race 3 No4 NOBLE MARK (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott – Jockey: Luke Morris
NOBLE MARK’s US pedigree lends itself to this surface, and the gelded son of Animal Kingdom has a good chance of taking out this maiden if confirming the good impression he showed when stepped up to seven furlongs trip at Chelmsford. Second to Mountbatten on that occasion, he’s well drawn to obtain a stalking position, and can go one better.
Race 7 No4 FRED BEAR (Each Way)
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Trevor Whelan
FRED BEAR could make a quick reappearance after running at Kempton yesterday, and if so is worth more than a second glance. The gelding was not straightforward when running on the Flat last spring, but after a number of front running outings over hurdles could be seen in a different light back on the level.
SOUTHWELL – 25/01/2022
Race 2 No5 BLUE TRAIL (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: David Probert
BLUE TRAIL should take a fair bit of stopping on this second career start. The hooded son of Teofilo chased home Stormy Ocean on debut at Newcastle and if making normal progress into this second outing from a favourable draw will be hard to beat.
Race 6 No3 TALKING ABOUT YOU (Each Way)
Trainer: Sean Curran – Jockey: Callum Hutchinson
Sixties Icon mare TALKING ABOUT YOU has the wherewithal to notch a first Flat success in this stayers’ handicap. The top juvenile hurdler from last year didn’t cut it when pulled up in her first attempt over fences, only to bounce back with an earning run on the Tapeta surface at Wolverhampton at the beginning of the month. Everything looks set for a good run, though my confidence is always elevated if I see support for horses from this stable.
