Neil Morrice provides tips for Monday’s British race meetings at Kempton Park, Southwell and Wolverhampton on 24/01/2022.
KEMPTON PARK – 24/01/2022
Race 2 No1 GRIGGY (Nap)
Trainer: Sean Curran – Jockey: Grace McEntee
Course and distance winner GRIGGY attracted on course money before making a frame finish on first run of the year at Wolverhampton. He’s back in action off a reduced handicap mark and with blinkers reapplied, giving him every chance to fare better.
Race 4 No7 WHITTLE LE WOODS
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Jason Watson
Several in this are recent winners and of those WHITTLE LE WOODS appeals most. He’s quickly back on course after a confidence-boosting triumph at Chelmsford, and from a plum draw can strike while the iron’s hot.
Race 7 No7 FRED BEAR (Each Way)
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: George Bass
FRED BEAR has done well for West as a cast off from the Channon stable with six earning efforts as well as a win from nine outings over hurdles. He’s very interesting now returned to the Flat for what is only his second ever start on the all-weather, and can earn.
SOUTHWELL – 24/01/2022
Race 3 No2 FERNANDO RAH (Nap)
Trainer: Clive Cox – Jockey: John Fahy
FERNANDO RAH has only once failed to trouble the judge in nine outings and been on good terms with himself this winter, scoring over course and distance in December and finishing second stepped up to six furlongs at Kempton last time. The three-times winner can make to two from two at this track.
Race 4 No2 ARIA ROSE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mike Murphy – Jockey: Connor Beasley
Strong traveller ARIA ROSE has possibly needed his last two starts on Tapeta and is now in a position to raise his game. The seven-year-old needs to get an early position after breaking from the rail, but should that happen he can deliver an improved display, and earn.
Race 7 No2 BARE NECESSITY
Trainer: Clive Cox – Jockey: John Fahy
BARE NECESSITY was easy to back when opening her account at Wolverhampton, getting the job done with something up her sleeve nonetheless. She will need to tough it out to beat fellow recent scorer Vespasian, but could easily make the improvement required.
WOLVERHAMPTON – 24/01/2022
Race 5 No9 SOUS LES ETOILES
Trainer: Charlie Fellowes – Jockey: Hayley Turner
SOUS LES ETOILES posted a mid division finish when third of five to Yonafis at Chelmsford last month. She was weak in the market, but kept on to shape with some promise. With the benefit of that eye taking run under her belt she can now outpoint the more experienced White Willow.
Race 8 No8 SELECTO (Nap)
Trainer: Stella Barclay – Jockey: Joanna Mason
SELECTO has shown a penchant for Tapeta with back-to-back triumphs at Newcastle. He’s taken a hike in the weights, but is clearly all the better for a change of stables, and still handily placed to complete a fine hat-trick from his revised mark.
