Neil Morrice provides his best bets and tips for Thursday’s Racing at Pontefract, Perth and Wolverhampton.
PONTEFRACT – 23/09/2021
Race 2 No2 SIGNORINA MERISI (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Connor Beasley
Caravaggio filly SIGNORINA MERISI signalled with a narrow defeat at Thirsk that she’s on the cusp of a breakthrough success. Though starting to go in her coat, she’s trained well in preparation for this and should open her account.
Race 6 No11 WAKEY WAKEY
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
Easterby can take out the last two races, with WAKEY WAKEY in a good place to open his account in the novice stakes. He will be more streetwise after an earning run on second start at Thirsk to take advantage of a favourable position breaking from the rail.
Race 7 No4 FOSSOS
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Ella McCain
First time blinkers seemed to aid FOSSOS when he was only caught in the final strides over this course and distance last week. The Dandy Man gelding should make a good fist of taking out this similar contest with the headgear retained.
PERTH – 23/09/2021
Race 1 No9 SUPER SIX
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
Although lacking experience over jumps, SUPER SIX represents an outfit well versed in taking home cheques from this meeting. The dual bumper scorer has worked and schooled well ahead of this first division of the novices’ hurdle.
Race 3 No4 ONE TRUE KING (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
This is a cracking contest, and while respect is afforded to Pay The Piper and multiple scorer Minella Touch, ONE TRUE KING can trump them. The selection came up against some capable foes either side of his hurdling successes at Uttoxeter and Leicester last season and always promised to find his forte over fences. He’s been well prepared for this.
WOLVERHAMPTON – 21/09/2021
Race 4 No8 MUMCAT (Nap)
Trainer: Sean Woods – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt
MUMCAT hails from a yard that’s done well with its juveniles and looks to have all the bases covered. The Kitten’s Joy filly showed a liking for this track when touched off by Serenity on debut, has a good slot one off the fence and should prove hard to catch.
Race 7 No3 DIAMOND BAY
Trainer: Tom Ward – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
A 6lb penalty for last week’s resounding Kempton win shouldn’t prevent DIAMOND BAY from completing a fine hat-trick. The New Bay gelding is having just a fifth start of the year and probably has more to offer in the nightcap.
NEWMARKET – 23/09/2021
Race 1 No4 DAWN OF LIBERATION (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Ryan Moore
DAWN OF LIBERATION has the points on the board after placing in both starts at Newbury and York. The Churchill colt faced tough foes like Reach For The Moon and Hoo Ya Mai but should find nothing of that ilk blocking his path towards a first success.
Race 4 Tattersalls Stakes (Group 3)
No7 TRIDENT
Trainer: Andre Fabre – Jockey: Mickael Barzalona
IT’S not often ‘master’ trainer Fabre has runners at HQ, and when he does it’s time to sit up and take notice. TRIDENT finished a staying on second to Perfect Power in the Group 1 Prix Morny and can give a boost to that colt’s Middle Park Stakes prospects by overcoming Claim The Crown in an interesting feature on Day 1 of the Cambridgeshire meeting.
Race 8 No5 BASHFUL
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert
BASHFUL is a long-standing maiden that has often frustrated his followers. However, when taking home a minor cheque on only a second handicap outing at Lingfield he indicated he can soon put the record straight. This course with its gradual climb to the finish should bring out the best in him.
