22/07/2022 – Friday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Friday’s race meetings at Ascot, Thirsk, Uttoxeter, Chepstow, Newmarket and York on 22/07/2022.

ASCOT – 22/07/2022

Race 1 No11 SYNDICATED
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Jim Crowley

SYNDICATED sets a good standard for his rivals to aim at in a maiden that’s been part of the Ascot calendar for many decades.

The Dubawi colt was sent off a shade of odds on for his first outing, having worked beautifully at home, but was too green to do himself justice against Miami Girl.

He will know more of what’s required, and should be fully on the case.

Race 2 No2 CLOCHETTE (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

The same stable has strong claims in this novice stakes with CLOCHETTE.

She wasn’t quite mentally strong enough to hold Lady Alara on her Newbury debut, but is now considerably more streetwise. She put in a very pleasing final gallop for this, and is strongly fancied to go one better.

Race 3 No3 SINGLE
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

A race that remembers one of the greatest stayers of all time can fall to SINGLE.

The Nathaniel mare wasn’t totally disgraced in the Queen Alexandra Stakes here last month and was denied by a couple of inches at Sandown.

She didn’t take to the Chester turns, and will be happier returned to a galloping track on which she is proven.

Race 5 No2 TRAIS FLUORS
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Miss Susannah Stevens

TRAIS FLUORS is becoming expensive to follow, but is so well treated that the day you desert him will probably be the day he delivers.

That’s a good reason for sticking with the gelding in this lady amateur riders’ handicap, in which his pilot, though inexperienced, has ridden him several time as home.

THIRSK – 22/07/2022

Race 5 No1 BAZALGETTE (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Rossa Ryan

Named after the man who built the London sewers, BAZALGETTE appeals as the only bet on a tricky card and can build on a satisfactory comeback effort when third at Ffos Las.

The Clodovil gelding had a good blow after that third placing behind Zambezi Magic, and will be both physically and mentally more forward for it.

UTTOXETER – 22/07/2022

Race 2 No8 SEABOROUGH (Each Way)
Trainer: Derek Shaw – Jockey: Aaron Anderson

The faster they go in this two mile handicap hurdle the closer SEABOROUGH should get to winning. He’s having a first run over jumps since late March, but enjoyed a run on the Flat earlier this month that should have brought him forward.

Race 5 No3 BAREST OF MARGINS (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Conor O’Farrell

The one I’m most looking forward to watch here is BAREST OF MARGINS.

The Shirocco gelding claimed a cheque in each of his four outings in bumpers and attracted on course support when second to Getaway Jewel on chase debut at Market Rasen.

He’s a good jumper and can with a win endorse all the promise of that pleasing effort.

Race 7 No8 MASKED MATGIL
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: Stan Sheppard

MASKED MATGIL made Lock Out pull out all the stops on Rules debut at Newton Abbot. The daughter of St Leger winner Masked Marvel has learned from that experience, and rates the one to beat in the concluding mares’ bumper.

CHEPSTOW – 22/07/2022

Race 4 No4 DELAHOUSSAYE (Each Way)
Trainer: Brian O’Rourke – Jockey: Saffie Osborne

Any chance DELAHOUSSAYE had at Epsom last time went into orbit when he was left at the start. It’s best to judge him on a couple of sterling previous efforts at Brighton, and give him the opportunity to bounce back.

Race 6 No2 DESPERATE HERO (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Saffie Osborne

DESPERATE HERO is a street ahead of his foes on course form, and even though beaten into fourth at Newbury last time had been suffering from some minor leg issues. His trainer claims off him tonight in a move to ensure he posts a first career tri7mph, which he should.

NEWMARKET – 22/07/2022

Race 4 No4 FULFILLED
Trainer: David Simcock – Jockey: Jamie Spencer

Betting opportunities do not stand up and hit you between the eyes at this meeting but FULFILLED is one horse I’m looking forward to. The Ulysses gelding raised his game to take home a cheque on seasonal return at Wolverhampton, and even though that was back in the late spring he can build on it.

Race 5 No6 RECHERCHER (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Rob Hornby

Nathaniel filly RECHERCHER keeps troubling the judge and can play the experience card to good effect in this three-cornered battle with the penalised Temporize and Ice House. She’s a very well related filly, who should appreciate this return to a mile and a half.

YORK – 22/07/2022

Race 1 No6 DANZAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Sean Kirrane

DANZAN has gradually run into some form this year, and showed his well being with a career best for the 2022 season when third in a Class4over course and distance. Remaining at this level but now stepped up in trip, He

Race 4 No6 CRAVEN (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Oisin Orr

Havana Gold colt CRAVEN was worried out of it by Rock Of England at Thirsk last time but should now make no mistake. He has the points on the board regarding course form and can make short shrift of well regarded newcomer Cobalt Blue.

Race 7 No10 PRODIGIOUS BLUE
Trainer: Nigel Tinkler – Jockey: Faye McManoman

PROGIGIOUS BLUE was rewarded for a string of good efforts on defeat with a success at Redcar, where he looked good value for his margin of victory. The gelding has attracted on course support on his last two outings, and may well do so again.
