Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s British meetings at Exeter, Market Rasen and Wetherby on 22/03/2022.
EXETER – 22/03/2022
Race 3 No6 ENCOUNTER A GIANT (Each Way)
Trainer: Alistair Ralph – Jockey: Alex Edwards
A chance is taken with ENCOUNTER A GIANT to show the benefit of a couple of readying runs for which he’s lacked the necessary fitness level. The Hereford novice chase winner is making just a fifth appearance under Rules, and could perform ahead of his likely starting price.
Race 5 No4 INDIROCCO
Trainer: T Ellis – Jockey: Miss Gina Andrews
INDIROCCO ran well on debut for new connections when chasing home Marracudja at Leicester. With several earning runs to his name over hurdles and fences before entering the hunter-chase division he could easily have more to offer.
Race 6 No2 PARK HILL DANCER (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: Mr Zac Baker
PARK HILL DANCER will receive good service from the saddle as one of a couple of recent point winners that are unknown quantities. His stable has its horses in good order after a successful Cheltenham, and this half-brother to Grade 2 winner Song For Someone should take plenty of beating.
MARKET RASEN – 22/03/2022
Race 4 No1 ARDMAYLE (Nap)
Trainer: Ali Stronge – Jockey: James Bowen
ARDMAYLE looked a rekindled spirit when equipped with a first time tongue tie and romping home at Southwell. The assessor has had his say, but in current mood it’s not difficult to envisage the ten-year-old following-up.
Race 6 No2 CAFE PUSHKIN
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
Though underwhelming at Ludlow last month when he was never going, CAFE PUSHKIN is worth another chance. His previous narrow defeat at the hooves of Flying Nun reads well, and he has scope for progression.
WETHERBY – 22/03/2022
Race 2 No1 GREDIN
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
From a stable that’s on fire, GREDIN can make experience count in this novices’ hurdle. The Carlisle bumper scorer has put in a couple of creditable efforts over jumps including when placed in a handicap hurdle at Doncaster last time. He faces a threat from regular earner Reilly but can prove too strong for that foe.
Race 5 No5 UNCLE ALASTAIR (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Brian Hughes
UNCLE ALASTAIR skipped an opportunity in a veterans’ chase on Sunday owing to unsuitable ground, but connections have wasted no time in re-routing him to this novices’ limited handicap chase in which he can endorse the promise shown in two outings against well handicapped rivals this season.
Race 7 No3 BESTIARIUS (Each Way)
Trainer: Gillian Boanas – Jockey: Tom Midgley
BESTIARIUS jumped and travelled with alacrity until making a costly final flight mistake on his latest start at Newcastle, but for which he would have finished in the money. It was a good effort from the normally consistent ten-year-old that augers well for today.
