21/10/2021 – Thursday’s Racing Tips

21/10/2021

Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for today’s racing at Carlisle, Ludlow, Newton Abbot and Wolverhampton.

CARLISLE -21/10/2021

Race 1 No8 MISTER WHITAKER (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

MISTER WHITAKER is a fascinating addition to a stable which has made a ver impressive start to the season. A former winner over fences at the Cheltenham Festival, the nine-year-old only found his way to the course three times last season and on three the one before.with so few miles on his racing clock he can still be a force, and strike on this first outing over hurdles since the spring of 2017.

Race 2 No2 CADZAND
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton

Withdrawn from an intended first chase earlier in the month, CADZAND will get the green light to make his debut over fences should the forecast rain arrive in this part of Cumbria. A winner of three of his four outings over hurdles last season, his only blip came when he was a beaten favourite for the valuable Betfair Handicap Hurdle at Newbury. He has schooled beautifully and looks a horse to follow in this new discipline.

Race 3 No7 ONEHUNDREDPERCENT
Trainer: Brian Ellison – Jockey: Brian Hughes

This competitive handicap hurdle can go to ONEHUNDREDPERCENT. The unexposed selection has made a bright start for his new handler with a clear cut win at Sedgefield and a solid second on handicap debut at Warwick. He fell victim to a muddling pace last time, and will be helped if this is a truly run affair.

LUDLOW – 21/10/2021

Race 1 No6 FULL OF LIGHT (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: Nico de Boinville

Downpatrick bumper winner FULL OF LIGHT has trained enthusiastically for this debut under Rules and first over jumps. The grey will go off at short odds, but is hard to oppose for a stable doing well with its early season runners.

Race 4 No6 YAUTHYM
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan

Shoddy jumping over hurdles proved a handicap to YAUTHYM on more than one occasion, while failing to prevent her winning once and making the frame on a further eight occasions. She is race fit, and a value proposition to outpoint the consistent Edinburgh Castle in an interesting affair.

NEWTON ABBOT –  21/10/2021

Race 3 No7 TED’S FRIEND (Each Way)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Max Kendrick

This stable can do little wrong and for value TED’S FRIEND makes sense. His bumper career yielded a Newbury success and placed efforts at Warwick (twice). He’s reported to have schooled well over hurdles at home, and is ready for this first outing in more than a year.

Race 7 No1 BAREST OF MARGINS (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Jonathan Burke

Shirocco gelding BAREST OF MARGINS is a rare bumper runner for a stable that concentrates on the Flat, but he has plenty of ability and can earn. In a race in which point winner Great Ocean will attract plenty of attention in market exchanges, the selection represents a value alternative.

WOLVERHAMPTON – 21/10/2021

Race 1 No7 POET (Each Way)
Trainer: Roger Varian – Jockey: David Egan

POET played up and had to be withdrawn from a similar contest here last week. However, if proving amenable the Kodiac colt can step up on the performances that earned him a mark. He has a good draw and is the least experienced in the field.

Race 5 No5 OUTSMART (Each Way)
Trainer: Ollie Pears – Jockey: Ben Robinson

Consistent OUTSMART looks the safest option in this novice stakes. The grey has good form from a couple of outings on Tapeta, albeit at Newcastle, and should take home a major cheque.
