21/04/2022 – Thursday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Thursday’s British meetings at Beverly, Warwick, Perth, Chelmsford City and Taunton  on 21/04/2022.

BEVERLEY – 21/04/2022

Race 1 No5 CAPOFAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Dods – Jockey: Connor Beasley

CAPOFAN wasn’t beaten far when posting a mid division finish on her debut at Redcar. Like many juveniles from her stable, she will be a lot more knowing with that run under her belt, and can give the others in the field with previous experience plenty to think about.

Race 4 No6 AUTUMN FESTIVAL (Nap)
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Danny Tudhope

AUTUMN FESTIVAL has looked a more rounded performer since being switched to turf, scoring on handicap debut at Redcar and finishing second under a 6lb penalty at Pontefract. He should have more to give over this slightly shorter trip.

WARWICK – 21/02/2022

Race 1 No2 BLACKCAUSEWAY
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

Although initially disappointing, BLACKCAUSEWAY put in an improved effort when third to Jeffery’s Cross at Warwick. The former point-to-point winner looks to have been found a good opportunity to step up and he should get into the shake-up of this first division of the maiden hurdle.

Race 2 No8 YOUNG BUSTER
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan

YOUNG BUSTER was sourced from a top Irish point yard after scoring between the flags over there. He’s shown ability for new connections and is well tutored for this first outing under Rules.

Race 6 No7 PICANHA (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Phillips – Jockey: Finn Lambert

PICANHA has run well throughout his first season over jumps, latterly chasing home the useful Come On Gruff on his first handicap assignment. He looks fairly treated in an admittedly competitive heat, and can take home another cheque.

PERTH – 21/04/2022

Race 2 No10 COLLINGHAM (Each Way)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

Model of consistency COLLINGHAM has the wherewithal to get into the shake-up under jockey-of-the-moment Hughes. He’s proved a credit to his trainer since scoring twice in the French provinces, and can make this a third success and an eight straight earning foray for the stable.

Race 5 No3 COACH CARTER (Nap)
Trainer: Gordon Elliott – Jockey: Sean Bowen

COACH CARTER may or may not have scored here on Wednesday by the time you read this. His trainer is clearly not bringing him to Scotland simply for the goodness of his health, and if turning out again he will surely prove hard to beat.

CHELMSFORD CITY – 21/04/2022

Race 6 No5 NEWTON JACK (Nap)
Trainer: Stuart Kittow – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

NEWTON JACK has a first all-weather run for almost a year on the back of a game success on turf at Windsor. He was supported for that game success over Kondratiev, and will be a popular order to follow-up.

Race 7 No2 ARLECCHINO’S GIFT
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: David Probert

Probert has a good understanding with ARCLECCHINO’S GIFT, having guided him to both career victories at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. His presence on the back on the gelding is an added incentive to back him to add to his laurels in this low grade sprint.

TAUNTON – 21/04/2022

Race 1 No2 MULBERRY HILL (Nap)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Liam Harrison

Former Irish pointer MULBERRY HILL won and finished second in her two other outings under Rules and returns for a back end/summer campaign. She has potential for further progression.
