2022 Newmarket July Meeting Tips – Andrew Halligan

2022 Newmarket July Meeting – Day One

We are halfway through the flat season and the festivals will come thick and fast now, and this week we have the  2022 Newmarket July meeting.

Three days of top action from flat racing HQ.

2022 Newmarket July Meeting 13:50 – Bahrain Trophy Stakes | 1m5f Group 3

Some nice form on offer here with Zechariah (2nd), Al Qareem (4th) and Green Team (7th) all meeting again after fine runs at Royal Ascot.

But the one I am strong on is the Andrew Balding-trained and Derby 4th MASEKELA.

Currently, in at 7/4, Masekela was not seen over further than 1m1f until his 8l 4th over 1m4f in the Epsom Derby.

He now takes an extra step up in trips which I think will really suit him. Back at Epsom he was ridden cold as connection were not sure if he would see out the trip, but he was a strong finisher running right through the line.

A reproduction of his Epsom run should be enough to see off Deauville Legend into 2nd place.

2022 Newmarket July Meeting 14:25 – July Stakes | 6f Group 2

This is a horse I am very fond of and one who I believe can go right to the top of his division.

That horse is LITTLE BIG BEAR.

I was lucky enough to see him make his debut at the Curragh over 6f back in April where he was just touched off into 2nd place, and from that day he was a horse I took note of.

He went on to win a maiden at Naas before winning the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot where clear 2nd Rocket Rodney went on bolt up last Saturday in the Dragon Stakes.

The step back up to 6f looks like something that he is ready for as he is a different horse since the last time he raced over this trip.

Will be very hard to beat.

Outsider of The Day: 2022 Newmarket July Meeting

2022 Newmarket July Meeting 15:35 | Princess Of Wales Stakes | 1m4f Group 2

On paper, this looks between the top two in the betting, but with the potential of an easy lead, it might be worth taking a chance on LIVING LEGEND at 8/1.

A 3-time winner this season before 6/6 and 7/7 at Epsom and Ascot where he completely missed the break both times.

He comes with risks attached but if he does not miss the beak and with Ryan, Moore booked he could well make use of an easy lead on the top two who in their own right have questions to answer.
