20/04/2022 – Wednesday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Wednesday’s British meetings at Catterick Bridge, Ludlow, Perth, Lingfield and Salisbury on 15/04/2022.

CATTERICK BRIDGE – 20/04/2022

Race 4 No3 BELUGA GOLD (Nap)
Trainer: John Quinn – Jockey: Jason Hart

BELUGA GOLD is given a final chance to deliver after back-to-back seconds when odds-on. In fairness to the son of Make Believe, he should not find any of today’s opponents in the same league as the horses that have beaten him.

Race 7 No10 ROUND THE ISLAND (Each Way)
Trainer: Simon Whitaker – Jockey: Rowan Scott

ROUND THE ISLAND prefers Pontefract, but after benefitting from a solid enough comeback run at Thirsk can make an impact off bottom weight in the nightcap.

LUDLOW – 20/04/2022

Race 1 No2 SAYADAM (Nap)
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: David Bass

SAYADAM looks to have the bases covered in the opening novices’ hurdle. Having run into one against Charles Ritz at Southwell, he now returns to competitive action following wind surgery, and any price north or evens would in my view be a very fair investment.

Race 5 No10 CHANTILLY HAZE (Each Way)
Trainer: Phil Dando – Jockey: Conor Ring

The value play in this mares’ novices’ hurdle is CHATILLY HAZE, who we haven’t seen the best of. She attracted on course support 9lb to finish just out of the money at Uttoxeter last time and is better than that. Here is a great opportunity for her to prove it.

PERTH – 20/04/2022

Race 1 No7 SALVINO (Nap)
Trainer: Sandy Thomson – Jockey: Ryan Mania

SALVINO has found one to beat him in three of his five career starts but now comes back from a near four month lay off with the addition of a wind op. The surgery can make the difference between him being a winner or loser in a race that should be his for the taking if on his A-game.

Race 2 No2 UNCLE ALASTAIR
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Brian Hughes

Veteran UNCLE ALASTAIR gives away three years and upwards on the age scale, but should still be too sprightly for his foes. He’s run into progressive opponents in Papa Tango Charly at Carlisle and Erne River at Wetherby, and should find this easier.

Race 3 No3 COACH CARTER
Trainer: Gordon Elliott – Jockey: Sean Bowen

Irish raider COACH CARTER can make short work of his rivals in this two mile handicap chase. Lightly raced this season after waiting for better ground, he can better his good run when second in a Listed chase at Ayr at the start of the month.

LINGFIELD PARK – 20/04/2022

Race 6 No10 POLLINATE (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Laura Coughlan

With bottom weight in this low division handicap, POLLINATE can again trouble the judge in the colours of her trainer. She’s run well in successive races for her apprentice pilot, and can serve up a repeat.

Race 7 No6 WINNETKA (Nap)
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Mollie Phillips

The best bet on this card is WINNETKA, who after trouncing his Windsor foes last week now needs to show he can do the same on the all-weather, on which he is 0-17. However, he was so dominant at the riverside course that it should pay to give him the chance to show he’s turned the corner.

SALISBURY – 20/04/2022

RacE 2 No5 WHISTLEDOWN (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Darragh Keenan

The hooded WHISTLEDOWN put in a solid earning run at Nottingham on her first start in over six months. That should have put the cutting edge on her, and she looks all set for another earning experience.

Race 6 No2 KOEMAN (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: John Egan

KOEMAN never looked happy at Lingfield last week but was in the end beaten just three and a half lengths into seventh. He’s quite capable of bouncing back for this first run on grass since the autumn.

Race 7 No2 SULOCHANA (Each Way)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

SULOCHANA carries 11lb more than when taking out the same race 12 months ago, but may be able to score on her return and at the main expense of Mr Tambourine Man. The selection has progressed since that success and could have too much for her main foe, who comes here on the back of a recent confidence boosting win over hurdles.
