Matchweek 10 - Brentford Player Ratings from win vs Brighton

NEWMARKET

Race 1 No5 MARIE LAVEAU
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: William Buick

Sir Percy filly MARIE LAVEAU earned in a strong novice at Newbury when very easy to back, a run which gives her arguably the strongest formline to bring to the table for this interesting opener. She’s gone forward in her work at home, and in the colours of Arc winner Alpinista can open her account.

Race 2 No2 FITZ PERFECTLY (Each Way)
Trainer: Charlie Fellowes – Jockey: Jamie Spencer

FITZ PERFECTLY was a mid-div finisher on debut at Newcastle though 9n lay just over three lengths off the winner Balalaika. The No Nay Never filly can make good use of that experience against some eye-taking debuts, including Ribla and Sub Rosa.

Race 3 No8 REGAL HONOUR
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

Greek Order and REGAL HONOUR are peas out of the same pod, and look poised to dominate affairs. Both troubled the judge on debuts, but Regal Honour might have achieved more in his run behind Kolsai over today’s course and distance. Strong in the market, he left plenty behind in the betting round, but with a win here can show that the losses were merely lent.

Race 7 No8 REBEL RED (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Rob Hornby

Frankel colt REBEL RED is taken to upset Military Order in what is possibly the best race of its kind on the card. The selection found only his stablemate If Not Now too strong at Salisbury when caught close home, and is strongly fancied to go one better against a rival who was also a beaten favourite on his own first run at this course.

FONTWELL PARK

Race 1 No4 MONTGOMERY ( Nap)
Trainer: Christian Williams – Jockey: Jack Tudor

The form of MONTGOMERY’s debut bumper at Worcester worked out especially well, and as long as he’s ready after more than a year off the Soldier Of Fortune gelding can outclass his foes on an immediate switch to hurdles. Givers puts an unbeaten record on the line, and is one that can cause the latter problems.

Race 8 No2 CHERRY COLA
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Marc Goldstein

CHERRY COLA ran above her starting price of 14-1 when second in a Plumpton handicap hurdle last month. Considering it was her first outing over jumps since March 2021, there should be more to come from her.

WORCESTER

Race 2 No5 MANOFTHEPEOPLE
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan

This three-mile handicap chase is the best race on the card and gives MANOFTHEPEOPLE a fine opportunity to clinch a hat-trick of successes. His triumphs at Huntingdon and Doncaster were gained over hurdles, but he’s jumped fences satisfactorily at home, and is ready for this first outing over them in public.

Race 6 No7 YOU WEAR IT WELL (Nap)
Trainer: Jamie Snowden – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

Midnight Legend mare YOU WEAR IT WELL smoothly landed a Catterick bumper back in February when she revelled in the easy conditions. Hailing from a yard that’s been on the money with its novices, she can follow up at the main expense of Blue Beach.

Race 7 No13 THOMAS MOR
Trainer: David Pipe – Jockey: Tom Scudamore

The Pipes have done well with numerous acquisitions from Colin’s Bowe’s stable, and in recent recruit, THOMAS MOR have a prospect that should serve his owners well. He was impressive when landing a point on his final start in Ireland, and if there’s money for him it should be heeded.

KEMPTON PARK

Race 1 No2 PHOENIX GLOW (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Charles Bishop

Although underwhelming at Leicester last time, PHOENIX GLOW would have finished a lot closer had she been in the vicinity of a draw bias which favoured those that came up the centre of the course. Her bid near the stands’ rail came too late to make an impression, and she’s worth supporting to better that nursery debut run.

Race 4 No9 ROWAYEH (Each Way)
Trainer: Owen Burrows – Jockey: Jim Crowley

With those at the forefront of the market badly drawn, the attention is drawn to regally bred newcomer ROWAYEH. The daughter of Dubawi has War Front on her dam’s side of the page and, although hooded for debut, has shown plenty in her work.

Race 5 No5 HEY LYLA (Nap)
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

HEY LYLA faces an impeccably-bred beginner in the Godolphin-owned Whispering Dream, as well as Calyx’s sister Coppice, but is much better drawn than the first-named and can play the experience card to good effect. The selection was returning from a near two-month break when going down in a photo to Dream Of Love at Newmarket and should know too much for them.
