PLUMPTON
Race 1 No3 KILFILUM WOODS
Trainer: Paul Webber – Jockey: Tom Scudamore
Alien Storm ran well on reappearance in a bumper here but as it was a four-horse affair the form’s hard to quantify. Preference is therefore for KILFILUM WOODS, who though himself meeting an identical fate on his latest start at the beginning of May has done well for a summer at grass and is ready for this first outing in over four months.
Race 2 No5 WHO IS THAT (Nap)
Trainer: Chris Gordon – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
WHO IS THAT put some jumping issues behind him when successfully coming back from a 200-day absence at Fontwell earlier this month. Having fallen on his first two chase outings, which were also at the West Sussex course, he was more adept and kept on gamely to open his account under Rules. His trainer rarely leaves here without a winner, and Who Is That fits that bill today.
PONTEFRACT
Race 1 No9 WE’RENOTREALLYHERE
Trainer: John Quinn – Jockey: Jason Hart
Although he’s squandered a couple of chances, WE’RENOTREALLYHERE looks to hold all the cards against less experienced foes in what looks a weak back end novice. The Camacho gelding has taken away a cheque on all but two of his eight career starts, maintaining his form with first blinkers and then cheek pieces fitted. While there is definitely a chink in his armour, he has a perfect draw from which to get an early handle on proceedings and he should win.
Race 2 No7 COVERDALE (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
From a stable amongst the winners, COVERDALE can put his best foot forward to open his account in a competitive nursery. The Expert Eye colt stayed on at the business end to earn at Redcar and also give himself a handicap mark. Stepped up to a mile here, he should have more to offer.
Race 3 No6 SIRONA
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Jack Mitchell
This featured Silver Tankard is a tricky puzzle to fathom, but in a race evenly balanced between colts and fillies distaffer SIRONA can take the spoils. The daughter of Soldier Hollow bolted up on her debut out of Kingsley House at Beverley before running into the I’ll-fated Munch at Goodwood. She showed on that occasion that soft ground holds no perils for her, and off a select campaign can further raise the tempo to take the spoils.
Race 7 No15 MAGICAL EFFECT (Each Way)
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: Jason Hart
Getting weight from the rest of the field, MAGICAL EFFECT has a perfect draw from which to obtain a good stalking position in the slipstream of the leaders in this sprint round a left-handed bend. He’s finished in the thick of things in each of his four starts which included a win at Catterick, and granted luck in running can finish with a flourish to take the spoils.
WINDSOR
Race 2 No2 FERROUS (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Rob Hornby
FERROUS showed promise at home before a training issue put him on the back burner. The Dark Angel colt is therefore making a belated introduction, but if displaying a similar level of ability can run into the money at a working man’s price.
Race 7 No1 PLATINUM PRINCE (Nap)
Trainer: Gary Moore – Jockey: Tom Queally
With three wins and frame finishes in each of his seven outings in 2022, PLATINUM PRINCE has shown himself to be an owners’ dream. On this first visit to Windsor in two years he can maintain his upwardly mobile curve, but needs to be ridden closer to the pace than for his defeat at Brighton.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 4 No11 SMEATON’S LIGHT (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
SMEATON’S LIGHT seems just as good over five, six or seven furlongs. This versatile sort upped his game when beaten into third in a blanket finish on a first visit to this course at the start of the month. It was only his second-ever run on sand, and as he was finishing best of the main protagonists he won’t mind returning to a longer trip tonight.
Race 8 No7 CORNISH STORM (Each Way)
Trainer: Stuart Kittow – Jockey: Luke Morris
With little racing under his belt and a much-improved display to earn on handicap debut, CORNISH STORM is of interest in an open nightcap. He has a difficult draw to negociate, but granted a good break from the stalls can continue his improvement to trouble the judge.
