15/04/2022 – Friday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Friday’s British meetings at Lingfield Park, Newcastle and Chelmsford City on 15/04/2022.

LINGFIELD PARK -15/04/2022

Race 3 No6 CRIMSON SAND (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hughes – Jockey: William Buick

CRIMSON SAND a landed some good bets in successive visits here in early 2021 and has shaped well in three earning efforts this year. With his liking for the track, the addition of cheek pieces, a favourable draw and a significant jockey booking he looks bombproof for a pay cheque of some kind.

Race 4 No5 ZAMEKA
Trainer: Roger Varian – Jockey: Jack Mitchell

ZAMEKA pays his first visit to Lingfield after finishing third at Kempton, second at Newcastle and scoring at Wolverhampton. The No Nay Never gelding went past trees in opening his account, and though faced with a far sterner challenge has any amount of scope for progression for his top connections.

NEWCASTLE – 15/04/2022

Race 2 No3 BLESS HIM
Trainer: David Simcock – Jockey: Jamie Spencer

BLESS HIM benefitted from a Spencer ‘peach’ when coming from last to first to score over seven furlongs here last month. Having run well at the Dubai Carnival, he took advantage of a class drop to gain what will hopefully prove a timely confidence builder. He will need to be on his A-game to follow-up in this conditions race, but he can be.

Race 3 No3 EJTILAAB
Trainer: Charlie Fellowes – Jockey: David Egan

Visually at least, EJTILAAB was a hugely impressive scorer on debut for his handler at Kempton. The gelding produced a telling change of gear to power away from a decent yardstick, suggesting a change of scenery has done him the world of good. If turning up in similar mood he can make light of his new mark, though Spycatcher is a dangerous foe who should be saved on, as well as going into all exotics.

Race 4 No9 TIBER FLOW
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Tom Marquand

TIBER FLOW can successfully defend a three race unbeaten record in a well contested conditions sprint. The Caravaggio colt coped with a step up in grade to account for My Dubawi at Southwell last month, having only started racing in early December. This will be tougher, but I fancy him to confirm his superiority over the latter on the way to better things.

Race 5 No4 HIGHFIELD PRINCESS (Nap)
Trainer: John Quinn – Jockey: Jason Hart

HIGHFIELD PRINCESS has been kept busy with a trio of outings through the winter, giving her valuable experience of the Tapeta surface. Twice Group-placed on turf last year, the Night Of Thunder mare looked to be coming to hand with a near miss at Wolverhampton last time, and on her best 2021 form is the clear pick in this.

Race 6 No8 SLEEPING LION
Trainer: Roger Charlton – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark

Dual purpose horse Earlofthecotswolds needs respecting after a couple of wide margin triumphs in Kempton handicaps. However, he was no match for SLEEPING LION at the same venue in early February, and even though that rival is better off at the weights, his stable is going through a quiet patch. Sleeping Lion has, on the other hand, had his sights on this prize ever since, and he should prove hard to beat.

Race 7 No5 TYRRHENIAN SEA
Trainer: Roger Varian – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

TYRRHENIAN SEA had his unbeaten record torn apart in a shock defeat at Kempton, though the distance between himself in fourth and winner Baldomero was just half a length in a blanket finish. The grey now returns to his happiest hunting ground where each of three previous triumphs occurred. He is strongly fancied to outclass his opponents and to bounce back.

CHELMSFORD CITY – 15/04/2022

Race 1 No3 MOUNTBATTEN (Nap)
Trainer: Archie Watson – Jockey: Adam McNamara

MOUNTBATTEN was disqualified after winning on debut here in January and looks to have been found a good opportunity to gain consolation for that technical knock out. The black son of Dabirsim has been in great form limbering-up for his return, and should have too many guns for Secret Army.

Race 4 No2 INIGO JONES
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore

More than one in this could be Group horses dressed up as handicappers, and it would come as no surprise if INIGO JONES was of that ilk. The New Approach gelding finished only five and a half lengths behind the high class Mohaafeth in a Listed race at Newmarket around this time last year, and with only six racecourse visits to his name has scope for plenty of improvement for his trainer, who is a master with this type of slow developing horse.
