Neil Morrice provides tips on a special day at The Curragh with Hollywoodbets the sponsors of five races at the home of Irish flat racing on 14/10/2021.
THE CURRAGH – 14/10/2021
Race 3 – HOLLYWOODBETS MONEY BACK IF 2nd To SP FAV IRISH EUROPEAN BREEDERS FUND MAIDEN: DANCING REBEL (Nap)
Trainer: Ken Condon – Jockey: Billy Lee
DANCING REBEL looks the pick of the fillies in this sprint, and can trump paper favourite New York City. She’s made improvement from race to race in her three starts, latterly going down by inches to Heart To Heart at Navan. This is the shortest trip she’s encountered, but with speed to burn it should prove advantageous.
Race 4 – HOLLYWOODBETS NOW STREAMING ALL IRISH RACING MAIDEN: SIX FEET APART
Trainer: Joseph O’Brien – Jockey: Declan McDonagh
In the colours of Peter Saville, SIX FEET APART takes the eye and can confirm the promise of her career debut when third at Punchestown. The Mount Nelson filly faces stern opposition from the more experienced Lusaka, but being out of a mare by Arcano will surely benefit from this abrupt step up in trip.
Race 5 – HOLLYWOODBETS BEST ODDS GUARANTEED HANDICAP (Div 1): DAMMIT (Each Way)
Trainer: Luke Comer – Jockey: Chris Hayes
DAMMIT put in a career-best on his latest start on grass when chasing home Silent Performance at Down Royal. And though finishing with more behind him than in front at Dundalk, he was beaten only six lengths in that warm heat. He has scope for progression and can earn at a price, with Crassus a must for exactas and tricasts.
Race 6 – HOLLYWOODBETS BEST ODDS GUARANTEED HANDICAP (Div 2): RACY LACEY ( Each Way)
Trainer: Ger Lyons – Jockey: Colin Keane
Three-year-old RACY LACEY has few miles on her racing clock after earning on both handicap outings for top connections. Staying at the mile and a half at which she troubled judge behind No Trouble at Dundalk, she looks poised to earn again for a trainer striking close to 24% with his runners in October.
Race 7 – HOLLYWOODBETS GET E20 IN FREE BETS HANDICAP: COFFEEMEANSCOFFEE (Each Way)
Trainer: Tom McGuinness – Jockey: Killian Leonard
A ferociously competitive handicap can fall to COFFEEMEANSCOFFEE, one of the few in the 20-strong field who knows how to win. She opened her account for McGuinness with a gritty triumph at Cork, and consolidated with a near miss when second to The Peckhampouncer at Navan. If bringing that level of form to the table the mare can outpoint Born Invincible and the penalised Dutch Schaefer.
BRIGHTON – 14/10/2021
Race 4: HAYNES (Each Way)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert
One that could upset the applecart in this novice is HAYNES. The son of Postponed showed ability on Sandown debut, and though ultimately finishing 15 lengths shy of Goldspur, it’s noted that the winner went on to land a Group 3 at Newmarket, while Haynes will come on a long way from that first foray onto the track.
Race 5: WISPER (Nap)
Trainer: Jonny Portman – Jockey: David Probert
Probert has a good book of rides and none more so than WISPER. The Belardo filly impressively opened her account over this course and distance and can shake off a 6lb penalty on a quick run back.
CARLISLE – 14/10/2021
Race 3: MALPAS (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
With figures of 6/F3FF you’re entitled to think backing MALPAS involves an extra risk. However, he is normally an accurate jumper and is unlucky not to have scored so far as he was travelling well when departing on his latest visit to Sedgefield. He’s definitely a horse to keep your faith in and can deliver on seasonal turn on the way to better things.
Race 4: SPEAK OF THE DEVIL
Trainer: Lucinda Russell – Jockey: Stephen Mulqueen
SPEAK OF THE DEVIL was an impressive scorer when last seen at Hexham in June. The eight-year-old is beginning to live up to his early promise and can take full advantage of the weight he receives from each of his foes in this three-mile handicap chase.
WINCANTON – 14/10/2021
Race 3: SEE THE SEA (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Peter Kavanagh
Fast ground has kept field sizes down in this six-race card, but SEE THE SEA has much to recommend her as she encountered similar terrain when hacking up at Ludlow last week. The seven-year-old is enjoying her racing since undergoing a wind op, and can strike while the iron’s hot.
Race 4: MR MAFIA
Trainer: Martin Keighley – Jockey: Sean Bowen
Veteran MR MAFIA can show a clean pair of heels to his rivals in this long-distance handicap chase. All but one of the six-strong field have been in recent winning form, but the selection was hugely impressive scoring by a distance to land some good bets at Fontwell, and if turning up in that mood will be hard to beat.
CHELMSFORD CITY – 14/10/2021
Race 4: DISCOVER DUBAI
Trainer: Saeed Bin Suroor – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Murphy can notch an important winner in his championship bid with DISCOVER DUBAI. The lightly-raced gelding has a kinder draw than market rival Eagle Creek and has seen his latest handicap mark-earning run behind Sunray Major here boosted by that winner. He will surely be in the shake-up if maintaining his progression in this new sphere.
Race 5: UNDER THE TWILIGHT (Nap)
Trainer: Tom Ward – Jockey: Tom Marquand
Lord Lovelace has smart form to bring to the table but may find the filly UNDER THE TWILIGHT too hot to handle. The daughter of Twilight Son started a 25-1 roughie on Kempton debut, but shaped encouragingly to take home a cheque. Not only will she know more of what’s required, but she receives a very handy 12lb from her rival.
