BRIGHTON

Race 1 No5 ON EDGE (Each Way)
Trainer: Chris Mason – Jockey: Gina Mangan

ON EDGE landed a quiet touch at Chepstow only for the horse he beat to turn the tables on much better terms at the same track. The four-year-old went off too hard on his latest start at Ffos Las, and that heavy defeat will reflect on his price on a first run here. If handling the unique undulations he’s in with a good earning chance, but he needs to be waited with.

Race 2 No3 MUTAANY (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Hills – Jockey: Jim Crowley

MUTAANY has found one to beat him in each of his last three starts and traded very short in running only to be trumped by Kerdos on latest outing at Haydock. A strong traveller, he can get the better of Danger Alert in what the betting rightly tells you is a match between the pair.

Race 3 No5 URBAN VIOLET (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

URBAN VIOLET had plenty to do from her wide draw at Pontefract, yet stayed on in eye-taking fashion to only just fail to trouble the judge. She’s a filly that is very well handicapped but needs plenty of cut in the ground before rating a serious bet. My advice is to watch the weather, and should the going ease increase the amount you have on.

Race 6 No7 SONNETINA (Each Way)
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: George Bass

SONNETINA has just one success in 28 races to her name, but there are grounds to support her at a course she’s performed well at in the past. That victory happened here more than three years ago, since when her visits to the coastal venue have yielded figures of 43632. She left Goodwood with a minor cheque on a belated seasonal return in late August and wasn’t suited by the vast expanse of the Rowley course when in the ruck in an amateur riders’ contest at Newmarket. Her apprentice rider knows her and can guide her to a frame finish of some sort.

Race 7 No8 DE VEGAS KID (Each Way)
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Clifford Lee

Course specialist DE VEGAS KID has an uncanny knack of being in the money, and his form here this season reads 21444. He often attracts market support, which was never more evident than his success over a mile at the end of May. He won’t be as short (returned 6-5) but should prove strong in the ring, with the talented Lee riding him for the first time.

CARLISLE

Race 2 No5 SALVINO
Trainer: Sandy Thomson – Jockey: Bruce Lynn

SALVINO had a happy habit of troubling the judge last season. Barely out of the novice bracket, he’s one to stay close to now handicapping, and should soon open his account, hopefully, today.

Race 3 No7 SPRINGWELL BAY (Nap)
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr

SPRINGWELL BAY is one of the nicest types to have run so far this season, being well regarded at Jackdaw’s Castle and taking good form with him to the table both from Ireland and England. The ex-pointer was a smooth winner of a Market Rasen bumper on his only start last season and is ready for this return to the track and debut over jumps.

Race 7 No6 SAINT DAVY
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr

The same trainer/jockey combo can take the concluding bumper with SAINT DAVY, who impressed when landing his only point in Ireland and has done everything right since he arrived at the O’Neill yard.

CHELMSFORD CITY

Race 5 No5 NEW TYCOON (Nap)
Trainer: James Horton – Jockey: PJ McDonald

NEW TYCOON troubled the judge on second career start in a Haydock maiden which gives him an experience edge on most of his rivals in this maiden. As long as he can overcome an outside draw, he should know much for Oliver Show, who has shown promise at home but could run green on debut.

Race 7 No7 AEONIAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore

AEONIAN hasn’t managed in three outings this year to add to his debut success at Yarmouth last August. He probably needed the run on comeback at Haydock and has bumped into a couple of useful types in each of his latest starts at Lingfield and Newmarket. He’s a beautifully-bred individual that should have more to offer on only a fifth career start for top connections.
